This excursion is a must-do if you want an engaging and educational experience. Eliot is by far the most knowledgeable tour guide I've encountered in my 20 years of cruising. My husband, teenage sons, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. The food was outstanding, and the lagoon provided a calming atmosphere. We had a wonderful time on the Mayan Experience tour with Eddar. The meeting point was straightforward to locate. This was my son's highlight of the cruise. Our small group of 14 arrived at Chacchoben before the cruise excursions, allowing us to explore the site without the crowds. We also appreciated the tasty Mayan lunch. We had a fantastic day with Carlos. It began with a complimentary drink, allowing us to choose from beer, tequila, soda, or water. As we headed to the ruins, Carlos shared fascinating insights about the town and Mayan culture. Although our bus broke down, we were conveniently near a store that provided cold beer for the warm day. Carlos also treated us to some fresh pineapple with chili, which was a nice touch. The tour of the ruins was engaging and suitable for all ages. We returned with plenty of time to get back on our cruise. It was an enjoyable experience.x M

    7. Bacalar Lagoon and Chacchoben Mayan Ruins tour from Costa Maya

    4.3· 57 reviews· 5.5 hours

Eight hours, includes visits to Chacchoben ruins and Bacalar Lagoon, with swimming, kayaking, and lunch by the water.

My family of four, including our 12 and 10-year-old kids, had a wonderful time on this excursion. Magalie was our guide for the entire trip and provided plenty of information during the ride. She stayed with us even while Edder narrated about the ruins. The ruins were incredible and visiting them was a highlight. Edder was knowledgeable, though at times he talked a bit excessively, repeating himself. He was very friendly, and I appreciated his passion. The Lagoon itself was lovely, but recent storms prevented us from seeing all seven colors; we managed to see only two or three. This was a good experience overall, although the water was quite choppy. We couldn't use the two-person kayaks as they took on too much water, which made me uneasy about my daughter kayaking alone, despite her wearing a life jacket. Magalie also assisted with serving our drinks and the food, which included four tacos—your choice of al pastor or chicken fajitas. Even the kids enjoyed them. In summary, it was a very good experience. I might consider doing this again if the water conditions were better, but we had a great time regardless.Robert_D
