Wildlife, forests, gardens, and the green pockets of Cabarete that make it bearable in monsoon and beautiful by November. Day trips and short drives where the landscape is the point.
1A day of thrill in Cabarete, including ziplining, waterfall jumps, and ATV rides, with transportation, lunch, and drinks included.
“We arranged all our airport transfers, taxis, and activities, including the waterfalls and ATV tour, with Ishmael Tours, and they exceeded our expectations. The drivers served as exceptional ambassadors for Cabarete. Eddy and Christian provided us with seamless, professional service, always welcoming us with smiles and laughter. They even shared some Spanish with us, adding to the fun. Parting with them was bittersweet, but it feels more like a "see you later" than a farewell.”— katiei725
2Four hours exploring Puerto Plata — aerial views from the cable car, San Felipe Fortress, local rum tasting, and a stroll along the Malecon.
“This tour met all our expectations. We saw significant attractions in the city and sampled rum, chocolate, and cigars, which my husband loved. Although the cable car was closed for renovations, Jose attended to our needs and expertly guided us around. We highly recommend him and this private tour.”— Paula_L
3A 90-minute session — interact with squirrel monkeys and feed them fresh fruit from your hands in a natural setting.
“My sister and I, both in our mid-50s, did the Monkeyland excursion during our cruise. Interacting with the little monkeys was a lot of fun. We had numerous chances to take pictures and videos with them in their habitat. There was an option to buy photos from the company for $35, which was reasonable as we received 29 images from the album. Runners Adventures, our tour operator, provided a nice overview of local culture before our visit. The drive from the cruise port took about 25 minutes one way due to traffic. Monkeyland is an excellent choice for families, and I noticed many adults enjoying themselves as well.”— llord2000
4Half-day semi-private tour from Cabarete — scenic drive, guided hike, slides and pools at Damajagua Waterfalls, lunch included.
“The tour was excellent. They went out of their way to help us with our timing issues. Our guide, Anderson, catered to just the two of us, and he was both professional and entertaining. He addressed all our inquiries.”— Lynn_A
5A full-day guided tour from Amber Cove to Damajagua Waterfalls, lunch included, with opportunities to swim in crystal-clear pools.
“Our experience was fantastic. The transportation was right outside the gate and easily identifiable. We were accompanied by a wonderful photographer named Frandy, who was friendly and really enhanced the excursion. We would definitely choose them again.”— Mitch_W
6Three hours of close-up encounters with squirrel monkeys, a nature walk, and a traditional Dominican meal with drinks included.
“The monkey encounter was fantastic. The handlers were gentle and caring, and it was clear the monkeys enjoyed their company. Lunch was enjoyable as well. Our guide did an excellent job.”— Tina_K
7Two-hour ATV tour through the Dominican countryside, exploring riverbeds and local life, suitable for drivers of all skill levels.
“I experienced my first ATV tour, and it was fantastic. The pickup service was prompt, and the guide was both patient and engaging, ensuring that everyone in the group enjoyed themselves.”— Tarsha_P
8Four hours via open-air truck — visit Independence Central Park, the Amber Museum, and Mount Isabel de Torres with its stunning views.
“My partner and I opted for this tour, and it turned out to be the perfect way to explore the city. Our guide Juan enhanced our experience beyond our expectations. He took us to all the key attractions and even some lesser-known spots, sharing insights about the city’s history, its people, and the land. We appreciated visiting both tourist hotspots and authentic Puerto Plata neighborhoods. Juan communicated clearly in English, making it easy for us to engage with him. He also took us to a fantastic restaurant for lunch that served genuine Dominican cuisine. Throughout the tour, Juan prioritized our safety and comfort, ensuring we felt secure in the city. We had an incredible day, largely thanks to him. The city is wonderful, and I highly recommend this tour.”— Stay39281310959
9Six hours of guided touring — visit Mount Isabel, explore a botanical garden, and enjoy panoramic views of Puerto Plata.
“If you're a fan of monkeys, this is a fantastic experience. Tito was outstanding and incredibly informative. I highly suggest taking this tour.”— paulcL4148NX
10Two hours exploring the Dominican countryside in a four-wheeled ATV, with off-road driving along river beds and rural landscapes, driver shared or solo.
“I will provide an honest evaluation covering the positive and negative aspects of the experience. The tour guides were polite and friendly, which was a positive. However, this tour was concerning for us as experienced ATV riders. The pickup from our hotel went smoothly, but upon arrival, we encountered severely worn-out ATVs that were in dangerous condition. Every ATV had bald tires, some with cracks, and broken components, including non-functioning brake lights. Many units were leaking fluids, which made the experience even more alarming. One rider had to change vehicles when fluid sprayed on her feet. The overall maintenance of these ATVs was alarming, with my husband’s ATV shutting off during the ride. We were provided with inadequate safety gear, such as bicycle helmets, which are insufficient for potential accidents. It is also unsafe to pair two people on a one-person ATV, which increases the risk of tipping. The lack of safety training was troubling; we had to offer advice to other riders who were inexperienced. The only guidance we received was to accelerate uphill and brake downhill, which is hardly acceptable. Regarding the tour's description, it was misleading. There was no river crossing, and we instead sat by a small sandy area briefly before leaving. We rode on dirt roads littered with garbage and ended up at a rocky beach that wasn't at all appealing. We did not experience the advertised cigar rolling, hot chocolate, or coffee tastings. Instead, the focus was on navigating poorly maintained ATVs, and other participants also expressed disappointment. Locals attempted to sell overpriced items, which felt disrespectful. I regret spending over $200 on this tour and wish I could receive a refund. This review is a genuine account of our experience, and I hope others consider their safety and the misrepresentation of this tour.”— Kim_B
