Picton on a fork. Walking food tours through the markets, cooking classes with local chefs, tasting flights at the bars worth your time, and a couple of long lunches that double as the day's plan.
1Full-day tour, luxury transport — taste top wines from four vineyards and enjoy a gourmet lunch prepared by local chefs.
“Many tour operators can take you between wineries and discuss the Marlborough area, but few will genuinely connect with you and enhance your experience. Doug stands out as a wonderful person and a key figure in the region. His intelligence, humor, and passion for people made our day enjoyable and insightful. Beyond being a talented singer, he took the time to listen and tailor our last stop to our preferences—taking us to a smaller cellar door where we met the wine-maker. It was expertly arranged. Thank you for making my birthday and our Marlborough trip truly memorable. We appreciate it and hope to meet you in Bali one day. This experience is worth every penny, as the team's genuine care for their guests is evident.”— teddwake
2Customizable private tour with a focus on your preferred wineries and schedule — includes behind-the-scenes tastings in beautiful Marlborough scenery.
“My wife and I arranged a private wine tour and it was an incredible experience. Darlene, our tour guide, was outstanding—she had a wealth of knowledge and ensured we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We visited several smaller, family-owned vineyards, which we appreciated. I highly recommend this tour.”— Conal H
3Four hours in a comfortable van — taste four local wines across three or four cellar doors, with an optional stop at a chocolate factory.
“Sherri, the owner and operator, led this tour with friendliness and punctuality during pickup. She was knowledgeable about the area and very responsive. We visited charming family-owned wineries.”— Joan_B
4Four hours touring Marlborough vineyards from Picton — visit three to four wineries with tasting options available.
“We enjoyed an excellent day on the Half Day wine tour with Sounds Connection. Our guide and driver was both knowledgeable and entertaining. We gained a lot of insights about the Marlborough wine region and look forward to returning for more wine experiences in the future.”— Go47345544743
5Half-day wine tour for cruise passengers featuring 4-5 top wineries, includes vineyard stroll and behind-the-scenes winery access.
“This tour was fantastic. Cameron shared a wealth of information about grape cultivation as we traveled through the vineyards. We toured one winery and learned about the vats and barrels involved in the winemaking process. The tastings were a highlight, featuring a variety of interesting options, making it a valuable learning experience. We visited four wineries and enjoyed a delightful lunch at one. The scenery in the area was stunning, adding to the overall experience. It became one of our favorite days in New Zealand.”— ShirleyG227
6A fully-guided small-group tour — visit Motuara Island, cruise Queen Charlotte Sound and spot marine mammals and rare bird species, including dolphins.
“This experience is both well-organized and welcoming. The crew's primary aim is to ensure you see as much as possible. A pod of dusky dolphins was a highlight for us on our return. We also loved spotting fur seals, king shags, blue penguins, and shearwater birds from the boat. On the island, we had close encounters with South Island robins, piwakawaka, saddlebacks, and bell birds. The knowledgeable crew made everything enjoyable, and they were willing to assist with anything. We had a fantastic day.”— Sightsee08372424688
7A half-day cruise from Picton — spot dolphins, rare bird species, and explore Ships Cove and Motuara Island with an expert marine biologist.
“Our group of nine had a wonderful time on the Captain Cook and dolphin cruise. We were fortunate to see rare birds, blue penguins, seals up close, and many dolphins during our adventure, which was unforgettable from beginning to end. Courtney and Captain Dan were exceptional hosts: friendly, knowledgeable, and truly approachable. They made everyone feel at home and offered a wealth of intriguing information throughout the journey. The entire experience was well-organized, laid-back, and memorable. We would definitely recommend this cruise to anyone in the area and would gladly book again ourselves.”— Go39853788611
8Three hours on a luxury cruise — enjoy local salmon and Greenshell mussels while taking in the scenery of the Marlborough Sounds.
“This tour is truly fantastic. The staff was wonderful, and the wine and food were beautiful. Our guide provided a lot of information, making for a fabulous afternoon.”— Kelly_B
9Six hours, small-group tour — cruise Queen Charlotte Sound and visit Motuara Island to view wildlife and landscapes, including dolphins and seals.
“It was a lovely day for a cruise. I saw dolphins for the first time, which was truly incredible, and we encountered many other types of wildlife as well.”— emiliabE9834TM
10Choose your own itinerary — hop on and off at Marlborough wineries, with discounts and additional activities available, half-day or full-day options.
“This experience was disappointing and felt like a money grab. Although the bus left on time, it took an extra 45 minutes to reach the first winery without any traffic issues, indicating an unmanageable schedule. While the drivers were fine, they were given a timeline that was unrealistic to maintain. Most passengers wanted to get on and off at the same locations, complicating the day's plans with added delays. Our second stop, which should have been just a 7-minute drive according to Google Maps, ended up taking 40 minutes due to the hop-on, hop-off schedule. We even considered taking a taxi, but those were hard to find. If you're visiting for the wineries, especially when a cruise ship is docked in Picton, I strongly suggest renting a car for the day or opting for a genuine wine tour. Unless your only aim is to drink, you'll likely be let down.”— W4902XMbh
