Heritage walks, museum days, temple complexes, and the kind of guides who explain why a place matters rather than reciting dates. The cultural side of Picton, paced for actual seeing.
1Four hours of kayaking in the Queen Charlotte Sound, exploring coves and beaches with a knowledgeable guide and a chance to see wildlife like seals and dolphins.
“We enjoyed perfect weather with calm waters, which enhanced our experience. Our guide was delightful and very supportive. It was a fantastic outing.”— Karin_M
2Three and a half hours on a comfortable vessel — transporting goods and passengers while exploring the unique corners of Queen Charlotte Sound/Tōtaranui.
“Our mail run boat trip in the Sounds was thoroughly enjoyable. With three of us on board, we appreciated the beautiful scenery over a few relaxing hours. The commentary was straightforward and informative without being too much. The complimentary tea and coffee provided a nice touch that enhanced the overall atmosphere. At about three and a half hours, the duration felt just right. It was a calm and pleasant experience, offering a fantastic way to appreciate the Sounds. Although it comes with a higher price tag, it remains a worthwhile option for those seeking a peaceful exploration of the area.”— BoardingPass773183
3Choose your own itinerary — hop on and off at Marlborough wineries, with discounts and additional activities available, half-day or full-day options.
“This experience was disappointing and felt like a money grab. Although the bus left on time, it took an extra 45 minutes to reach the first winery without any traffic issues, indicating an unmanageable schedule. While the drivers were fine, they were given a timeline that was unrealistic to maintain. Most passengers wanted to get on and off at the same locations, complicating the day's plans with added delays. Our second stop, which should have been just a 7-minute drive according to Google Maps, ended up taking 40 minutes due to the hop-on, hop-off schedule. We even considered taking a taxi, but those were hard to find. If you're visiting for the wineries, especially when a cruise ship is docked in Picton, I strongly suggest renting a car for the day or opting for a genuine wine tour. Unless your only aim is to drink, you'll likely be let down.”— W4902XMbh
4Four hours exploring the Queen Charlotte Sound — visit historic Ship Cove, spot wildlife, and enjoy onshore time at Captain Cook’s landing site.
“We had an amazing day, thanks to the fantastic service from the team and our Boat Captain, Greg. Spotting the dolphins was an incredible surprise. We truly appreciate it and plan to return.”— robertmL6126QJ
