This experience was disappointing and felt like a money grab. Although the bus left on time, it took an extra 45 minutes to reach the first winery without any traffic issues, indicating an unmanageable schedule. While the drivers were fine, they were given a timeline that was unrealistic to maintain. Most passengers wanted to get on and off at the same locations, complicating the day's plans with added delays. Our second stop, which should have been just a 7-minute drive according to Google Maps, ended up taking 40 minutes due to the hop-on, hop-off schedule. We even considered taking a taxi, but those were hard to find. If you're visiting for the wineries, especially when a cruise ship is docked in Picton, I strongly suggest renting a car for the day or opting for a genuine wine tour. Unless your only aim is to drink, you'll likely be let down.
The service was fantastic, complemented by outstanding customer care. Our driver Pete was knowledgeable, friendly, and kept us entertained during our journey as we hopped on and off. We felt really well taken care of and were even dropped off right at our hotel door.
Arrived at the pickup spot in front of the HoHo office around 9:45 am and was checked in quickly by the driver, who was very professional. At 10:00 am, the tour commenced, and we headed to Blenheim, with enjoyable commentary throughout the journey. Passengers could disembark at their leisure. I chose to visit the Omaka Classic Car Museum, which was a dream for any car enthusiast. There was an impressive collection of cars, and the aroma of oil and vintage interiors was delightful. I’m unsure how long I spent there, but eventually, hunger struck. I caught the bus to the Woodbourn Tavern for a late lunch, where I possibly indulged a bit too much in the beers. The Tavern staff kindly let me try some options to help me select my next pint, which I appreciated. After my early happy hour, I hopped on the bus again heading to Vines Village, a fantastic spot for wine, whiskey, and gin tastings. Our final stop was Makana Confectionery for a quick sampling of delicious chocolate. Overall, it was an excellent tour, a great day out, and I found the driver to be very cool. I would absolutely take this tour again.
What a wonderful winery tour! We explored beautiful sights while enjoying fantastic kiwi wines, with tastings at St Clair Vineyard and the Vines. I highly recommend it. Warren, Craig, and Pete were excellent drivers. I even made new friends from various countries and can't wait to do it again!
A convenient way to explore the region within the time constraints of our cruise ship. We managed some shopping, although options were limited. We enjoyed a fun lunch at the Cork and Keg, where the pizza was excellent, and we took in views of the vineyards.
Book this tour immediately. The countryside views are fantastic. As someone who doesn't typically enjoy wine, I appreciated the variety of other interesting stops. The Blue Penguin shop has adorable items at better prices than other places. Enjoy a pizza and Speights beer at Keg & Cork, where the food is excellent and the patio is inviting. Don't forget to visit the confection shop for delicious toffee with free samples. The Villages were a pleasant surprise; it was the only spot on my trip with a fabric shop, and I ended up bringing home plenty of fat quarters. Overall, it was a wonderful day.
During our cruise with Royal Caribbean, we visited Picton and had a wonderful experience. JJ from Hop on Hop off was fantastic and truly helped our family of 10 have a memorable tour. We're very grateful and highly recommend Hop on Hop off for anyone stopping in Picton. Their route allows for visits to several wineries, a location for excellent chocolate, and a kid-friendly spot called The Village. The scenic countryside along the journey is also stunning.
Our cruise ship was a day late on New Year's Day, which is a public holiday. The Hop on Hop Off team did a fantastic job taking care of us, showing great positivity and hospitality. They were well-informed and reached out to the stops in advance to confirm which ones were open on New Year's Day. Thank you for the wonderful, though brief, visit to Napier! I highly recommend this experience.
Excellent service with very helpful staff and a great selection of destinations to explore. I highly recommend it as they make for a hassle-free day trip without the need for a rental car.
This is an excellent option for visiting multiple vineyards without the hassle of driving, allowing you to enjoy local products. Our driver, Pete, was friendly and informative, providing great recommendations for our day. He had a solid knowledge of the area and addressed many of our inquiries about New Zealand. All the stops adhered closely to the schedule, offering a nice mix to accommodate everyone's preferences.
