The tour was tailored for our family, including two children, and it suited us perfectly with four adults and two little ones. Cam allowed our daughter and her partner to take their time enjoying the wine and the scenery without any rush. It was fascinating to hear the winemaker's insights at the first winery and witness how a small, organic operation runs from the vineyard to the bottle. Lunch was relaxed, and we enjoyed tastings alongside a delicious meal. We also visited another winery, a chocolate factory, and concluded at a brewery, which was a great finish for the two men in our group. Thanks to Cam for a wonderful day filled with knowledge and a well-organized tour. I highly recommend this experience.
Phil, our guide, was a humble and knowledgeable man with extensive winemaking experience. We were a small group of six on a tour in Marlborough that included five wonderful and interesting wineries. Having experienced similar tours globally, this one ranks among the best, if not the best. We highly recommend Hop and Grape, especially for the standout Cloudy Bay and Forrest wines, and the lovely, good-value lunch at St Clare.

The experience with Hop n Grapes was outstanding from beginning to end, marked by excellent communication, personalization, and thorough instructions. Upon meeting our guide Doug, I sensed we were in for a fantastic day. We began with a pleasant stroll along an estuary, observing black swans, ducks, and various birds. Then, we moved on to our first of four unique wine tastings. A delightful lunch followed on a patio surrounded by vineyards. Doug also took us on a scenic drive around the bay, ensuring we returned to the port ahead of time for our cruise ship departure. I highly endorse this tour.
Sometimes, a situation that seems like a disaster can transform into an unforgettable experience. My wife and I arranged a private winery tour with Hop and Grape based on our hotel’s suggestion, and we had some initial email discussions about options. On the day of the tour, we waited for almost an hour for our operator, growing increasingly frustrated. Eventually, I reached out to the company and learned that the operator had mistakenly picked up the wrong guests. When Doug arrived to collect us, he sincerely apologized for the mix-up. He took us to Spy Valley, St. Claire (lunch included), Cloudy Bay, and Nautilus. At each vineyard, he was recognized, and the hosts treated us to wonderful and tailored tastings. The highlight was spending time with Doug, a published author with an inspiring outlook on life. He opened up about his experiences and philosophies, providing us with “an experience that money cannot buy.” It’s rare to connect with someone so far from home who shares similar values and insights. The entire tour was expertly organized, the wines were exceptional, and the level of personal attention exceeded our expectations. Doug and Cameron truly made this a day to remember. When I look back on my trips to New Zealand, this day stands out, filled with meaningful connections with genuine locals.
