8Cycling around Mackinac Island’s circular route, this audio tour combines history with natural highlights over a flexible duration.
“This island is truly unique and beautiful, especially once you move away from the bustling port and shopping district. Having grown up in rural areas, the presence of horse manure and urine didn’t bother me, but having to constantly avoid it was not the way I wanted to spend my vacation. Overall, visiting the island was a worthwhile day trip, and I’m glad I did it.”— Timothy J
9Two hours of guided exploration — a mobile-hosted scavenger hunt highlighting local art, history, and culture with points and competition options.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of searching for and crafting the answers. I highly recommend it for families with teenagers. It was delightful to be playful while also learning about Mackinac Island together. Watching my kids step outside their comfort zones and engage was wonderful for them.”— janetaS3682PE
10Explore Mackinac Island's history from pre-European contact to the 1950s at various sites, including museums and a working blacksmith shop.
“Purchase a ticket to access the historic buildings, with options for a separate ticket or a combo pass for the fort. If you're planning to visit right after the ferry, I suggest going straight to the blacksmith shop, which will help you avoid the crowded main street. After crossing Main Street (be cautious of bikes and horses), head up Hoban Street away from the dock, then take a right on Market Street. The Biddle House and the Benjamin Blacksmith shop will be on your left where you can buy tickets and inquire about the other historic buildings. Your ticket grants entry to five buildings featuring exhibits, including interpreters and a working blacksmith. Consider purchasing a souvenir from the blacksmith shop, which operates on a donation basis and is managed by a knowledgeable and helpful blacksmith. The exhibits cover local families, Native American tribes, and the story of Alexis St. Martin. Additionally, there’s a general store and a working kitchen. We also toured the church at the end of Market Street and the missionary hut on the green in front of the fort, both of which were free to enter.”— LitHSBlessings
