This location was fantastic to explore. I recommend setting aside a few hours for your visit. They feature cannon reenactments, and staff members are dressed in period attire throughout.
This is a wonderful chance to immerse yourself in the life of a British frontier fort from the late 1700s. The reenactors demonstrate a deep understanding of the region's history, truly transporting you to another era. It's noteworthy as the location of the longest-running archaeological dig in the U.S., perhaps even in North America, where you can observe the excavations and enjoy the essence of history.
For anyone fascinated by Michigan's past, a visit to this fort is a must. It's a fantastic destination for families, educational trips, and history enthusiasts. We're grateful for this fort and others across the state that help preserve our history. Fort Michilimackinac comes highly recommended.
As a family that enjoys history, we found this fort to be exceptional. Having visited many forts throughout the country, we can confidently say this one stands out. Highly recommended.
This was my second time visiting, having come last fall when the native presenters were showcasing some harvest items, making it more vibrant. In late July, the scenery and gardens were stunning. There were also students working on the dig in the heat. My daughter remarked to her college friend, "that could be us someday!" It was wonderful to revisit and appreciate the buildings and exhibits again. I felt disappointed that no one was present when I exited through the back gates, which I believe is crucial since that's where history began. If we don't acknowledge it now, when will we truly recognize our nation's roots? Last fall, leaving through the back gates was the highlight due to the native woman there, who embodied the spirit of the camp. She was eager to show me everything, and I found it very engaging. I recommend ensuring there are always people present to educate or represent that heritage after touring the British camp.
This experience offers a fascinating glimpse into Michigan's history. My grandson really appreciated the tales shared by the staff, who remained in character throughout.
This fort is a fantastic destination in the Mackinac area. The staff is extremely helpful and responds to inquiries with professionalism. We gained a great deal of knowledge about the site's history and are grateful we chose to visit. We strongly recommend it.
There is so much to explore here, even if the weather is dreary. Be sure to chat with the blacksmith and watch a demonstration of his trade. Many people are dressed in historical attire, sharing insights about the former residents. You could easily spend hours here; it’s a fantastic place to visit.
The history and demonstrations were quite fascinating. It's easy to spend half a day exploring the fort, and I would definitely recommend it. Engaging with the reenactors added to the enjoyment.
This was a wonderful educational experience, and the staff provided an outstanding tour along with a musket demonstration. We are very pleased we decided to take this tour. It is something everyone should experience.
