Reviews
The historical significance of the battles for this strategic island and its fort is intriguing. The facilities are well maintained, and there’s even a cannon fired every few hours.
The final stop on the carriage tour was fantastic. I enjoyed exploring the buildings, visiting the gift shop, and having a meal at the tea room. The rich history and stories contained there made it a worthwhile visit.
There are many historical structures to see. The movie was fascinating, and I stayed to watch the 11 am cannon firing. However, rain reduced visibility, and being at the end of the season meant no hat pin souvenirs available.
This is definitely a unique piece of history. If you intend to purchase anything from the gift shop, make sure to do it before you leave, as you'll need to pay for admission again otherwise. Consider visiting the visitor center located straight down.
The forts are ideal for those interested in history and enrich the experience of visiting the island. While I tend to find them somewhat dull, our recent trip with a group of around twelve girl scouts made it worthwhile. The girls, aged 5 to 11, quickly moved through many rooms, as some were too young to absorb all the information. However, they enjoyed the interactive kids' area so much that we could have spent more time there, though the moms were starting to lose interest. One downside is that the fort lacks a proper eating space for larger groups. We struggled to find picnic tables or benches for the girls to enjoy their packed lunches, resulting in an awkward situation of having to set down in the middle of the fort when they became cranky and hungry.
The fort was impressive and the staff, along with the Boy Scouts, were very informative. The exhibits offered great educational value, and there’s an interactive area for kids. We also enjoyed watching the cannon fire at 11.
During our one day on Mackinac Island, we were advised by friends to visit the Fort Mackinac museum, and they were spot on. There’s a lot to explore, making it well worth the price. You can take as much time as you like, and it's especially ideal for enthusiasts of history and military conflicts.
The site was intriguing to explore, but it didn't live up to the quality of other forts we have toured. While it was acceptable, it left us somewhat disappointed.
Visiting Fort Mackinac was a fantastic experience. Touring the grounds allowed me to learn about its rich history, and the guides, dressed in period clothing, were eager to answer any questions. The views from the fort are truly remarkable.
This place offers a chance to learn about history and explore the various antique features of the fort. It’s also a wonderful spot for family activities. I had a great time there.
