Bear Glacier — places to visit in Seward
Bear Glacier in Seward — view 2
Bear Glacier is a massive glacier located in Kenai Fjords National Park, characterized by its striking blue ice and long, serpentine shape that extends into Bear Valley. This glacier, formed during the last Ice Age, is one of the largest in the area and showcases the dynamic nature of glacial landscapes. Visit during the summer months for the best chance to see calving icebergs and rich wildlife activities. Kayaking tours offer intimate views of the glacier, while nearby Harding Icefield presents panoramic vistas of the region's rugged beauty. The area is remote, so plan for a full day if you’re exploring.

Eight and a half hour cruise through Northwestern Fjord — wildlife sightings including whales, sea lions, and icebergs, with a deli lunch included.

This cruise was a standout experience during our two-week trip. The smaller boat offered a more intimate setting compared to other tours. We encountered a wealth of wildlife and birds, with the crew expertly identifying them and sharing insights about the natural history. They also took our photos, provided lunch, and even gathered glacier ice for glacier margaritas. While we brought binoculars, they were available on board too. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the superpod of killer whales. They surrounded the boat, swimming and breaching, and the crew set up an underwater microphone for us to hear their vocalizations. It was truly one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. This activity is essential if you're visiting Seward.404kelseyp on the Full-day Northwestern Fjord cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park tour

Seven and a half hours on the water—spot whales, sea otters, and glaciers with onboard lunch and narration.

The wildlife tour was fantastic, despite the challenging weather. The team did their best to take us to various spots for wildlife sightings. We were fortunate to see whales, puffins, sea lions, and kittywakes. Due to rough seas, the full-day tour was adjusted, and they promptly refunded part of our payment, only charging us for the half-day experience. We received the credit even before returning to the dock, which was impressive. This is a well-managed and staffed company, and I strongly recommend them for tours in the area.karensH2967YH on the Full-day cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park tour

This wildlife cruise departing from Resurrection Bay and exploring the Kenai Fjords was incredible. In September, we were thrilled to encounter a variety of wildlife, including sea lions, bald eagles, otters, cranes, and even orca pods. The captain and crew were outstanding. The stunning scenery, with sparkling Gulf waters, mountains, glaciers, WWII remnants, and brilliant blue skies, made for a captivating experience on a perfect sunny day. Four hours on a captain-narrated tour — see glaciers, cliffs, seabirds, and marine wildlife in Resurrection Bay.

I opted for the 4-hour Resurrection Bay tour, and it exceeded my expectations for the price. The duration was ideal, and I was treated to stunning views along with an abundance of wildlife: whales, otters, sea lions, seals, jellyfish, dolphins, bald eagles, and more that I've forgotten. The boat was clean and roomy. A special thanks to the incredibly friendly staff—Karlee, Logan, and Ryo—who enhanced the experience. Captain Emma was outstanding, expertly handling the boat and sharing her knowledge about the area and its wildlife. This tour should definitely be on your must-do list when visiting the area.michelerS8026FT on the Half-day wildlife cruise in Resurrection Bay from Seward tour
