    2. Wine tasting and village exploration in Sierra de Salamanca

    5.0· 10 reviews

A guided tour through Sierra de Salamanca, visiting vineyards and medieval villages, led by a local expert with in-depth knowledge of the region's wines and history.

The experience with Don Federico was truly exceptional. His charm and extensive knowledge, accumulated over a decade, made the tour feel more like an immersive adventure. We explored stunning and rarely seen villages in the Sierra de Salamanca, appreciating the architecture and old streets while learning about local history. Interacting with vineyard growers showcased their ancient cultivation methods adapted to dry climates. The wine tasting included unique varietals we hadn't encountered before, and the midday meal was the best we had in Spain, complemented by breathtaking valley views. All costs were covered in the tour price. We plan to return next year with friends for a multi-day journey to explore different regions. This customized experience with the passionate and entertaining Don Federico was outstanding.bendjon

The La Ruta de Don Frederico experience is an incredible introduction to young winemakers, century-old vines, castle hotels, family bodegas, and local culinary delights. Frederick and Maria Jose cater to your personal preferences, including dietary restrictions, interest in Castille-Leon, and language skills, while being remarkably punctual and engaged. After spending two weeks in Portugal, Frederick conveniently picked us up at Madrid airport and tailored our Segovia tour. We focused on the regional wines, beginning with a local restaurant sampling four varieties. Frederick possesses extensive knowledge of Segovia's architecture, history, cuisine, and local culture. We were also welcomed by the owner of a beautiful 15th-century hotel in Topas, where we enjoyed an extraordinary room, a solo tour of a Renaissance palace, scenic grounds, and a wine tasting featuring seven local wineries paired with a four-course dinner. The next day led us to Fariza, Mamoles, Formariz, Fermoselle, and Villar del Buey, where we met skilled winemakers and chefs rooted in the area for generations. Throughout our journey, Frederick documented our experiences through videos and photos. Our third day included a thorough exploration of Salamanca, which was far more enriching than a typical bus tour. We connected with locals while sampling food and drink, and we bought wines that aren’t available in the U.S.; Frederick is assisting us in finding a distributor for some extraordinary Spanish wines. The accommodations and unique visits were delightful. We concluded the trip with detailed recommendations from Frederick for our final day in Madrid, including a stay in a quaint apartment/hotel and suggestions for traditional and offbeat eateries. He provided an extensive guide for our Madrid leg, and if we had a whole week there, his insights would have been invaluable. Frederick, a former corporate executive with a zest for life, would certainly be a friend if he lived near us. Maria is delightful and a pleasure to be around. We appreciated meeting the innovative locals in Castille-Leon and plan to return for a more extensive tour with friends in the near future.Robert K

Two hours on foot — explore Salamanca's neighborhoods with a local who shares personalized insights and stories tailored to your interests.

I cannot recommend this service or provider. Our guide, who was supposed to be “a local,” lacked knowledge about the city beyond the main attractions as found on Google Maps. He relied on his phone for answers to our questions and requested to shorten the tour, which we agreed to since it wasn't engaging. When I asked for a partial refund, Lokafy declined my request.dome152
