Half-day bus trip from Olden, passing waterfalls and farmlands to Briksdal Glacier, with optional troll car rental for easier access.
This half-day excursion starts with a bus ride from Olden, taking you through a picturesque valley where you'll see the charming 'little red church,' Olden Lake, and colourful farms alongside numerous waterfalls.
Upon reaching Briksdal Inn, a scenic track flanked by waterfalls offers access to the glacier lake viewpoint, showcasing Briksdal Glacier. For those who prefer to avoid the walk, troll car rentals are available, providing an easier option to reach the viewpoint.
Reviews
This was an excellent excursion. I took the troll car, which was a great value. While you can hike the trail, it's a challenging uphill climb that takes about 45 minutes unless you're very fit.
The hike offers stunning views as you approach the glacier. While you won't reach the glacier itself, you can capture excellent photos of it. The trek is a bit challenging, so be ready for some stairs and hills. It’s definitely worth the cost!
Booking excursions with them during a cruise is highly recommended. The prices are higher when arranged through the ship, and the experiences are excellent. Our guide, Giuseppe, was friendly and very knowledgeable.
Absolutely worth it. The bus was large but well-managed. The journey to the lake is worthwhile, with stunning views of the waterfall. We enjoyed an Elvis singer when we returned to the bottom.
We arranged the tour just before arriving at the port and had a wonderful bus ride. The views at the glacier location were incredible.
It was a wonderful short trip. We were collected from the cruise terminal, and the guide did an excellent job on their first outing.
Initially, there was minimal signage for the tour operator when we departed from the ship. After asking several other tour groups, we discovered them by coincidence—so keep an eye out for those yellow fleeces. Overall, it was a good trip that was well organized.
The climb is more strenuous than moderate, but it’s an experience worth having. If you don't feel fit, consider using the motorized troll carts. The views are spectacular throughout the ascent.
The scenery during this excursion was the standout feature of our Norway trip. The guides were not only knowledgeable but also friendly and engaging. Walking from the coach park to the glacier offered stunning views throughout the journey. We highly recommend this tour.
Before 2007, visitors could get close to the glacier, but now it has receded, allowing only a distance of 300 feet. The striking blue color often shown in glacier photos was not visible during my visit. Essentially, this trip was just a shuttle from the cruise port to a parking area. I walked 45 minutes to the lake, which placed me 300 feet away from the glacier, and after spending only 15 minutes there, I had to head back to catch the bus.
