09Izalco is one of the youngest volcanoes in the world (and still active). Reaching its crater is a rewarding but challenging experience! Be prepared to walk on steep slopes, lush cloud forests, uneven ground and (when Mother Nature's in the mood) stunning views. Called "The Lighthouse of the Pacific" by ancient sailors, this young fella was in a constant eruption since late 1700s, spewing lava flows and debris until it reached an elevation of near 2000 m (6400+ ft). Near the crater you can still see fumaroles and, from the top, the solidified lava fields spewed during recent eruptions. As well the steep slopes of Cerro Verde waiting for us again. After getting back to Cerro Verde’s Visitors Center you have been made two volcanoes in one day and can proudly say VENI, VIDI, VICI. NOTE: this is a challenging hike, proper gear required for safety. Hiking boots/shoes, hydration, sun/rain protection and a good physical shape is a must. Trekking poles highly recommended.
10Discover the breathtaking beauty of Cerro Verde National Park, perched atop an ancient extinct volcano. Take a leisurely hike along the volcano's rim, immersing yourself in the stunning views of lush forests, sprawling valleys, and the neighboring volcanoes of Izalco and Santa Ana. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating facts about the region's unique ecosystem and volcanic history. On the return journey, pass through the charming, historic town of Izalco, founded by the Spanish in the 16th century. Here, you'll witness the traditional art of pupusa-making—a beloved Salvadoran dish. Get hands-on and try crafting your own pupusa, or simply savor the experience by tasting these delicious treats fresh off the griddle. After a stroll through the colorful streets of Izalco, rich with culture and history, you’ll return to your ship, enriched with unforgettable memories of El Salvador's natural wonders and traditions
11What if I told you that most travelers never truly see Santa Ana? They stop by the cathedral, snap a photo in the main square, maybe try a pupusa or two and think they’ve captured its charm. Many visitors only skim the surface, missing the small cafés where time seems to slow down, the markets bursting with life, and the local legends that bring the city’s past to life. Without a local guide, it’s easy to walk past what makes Santa Ana so special. Our Walking Tour in Santa Ana, lets you experience the city the way locals do. Your guide tailors the walk to your interests, mixing must-see landmarks with hidden gems that you won’t find on your own. You’ll hear the stories that don’t make it into guidebooks and discover the rhythm of everyday life that makes Santa Ana unforgettable. By the end, you’ll feel connected, not just to the city, but to its people. Expect personal recommendations, genuine encounters, and the joy of seeing Santa Ana through the eyes of someone who calls it home.
