Three hours exploring Cerro Rico mine at 4,400 metres — visit working galleries and learn about Potosí's mining history.
This three-hour tour takes you into the active Cerro Rico mine, located at an altitude of 4,400 metres. You'll witness the harsh working conditions faced by local miners as you navigate various galleries and levels of the mine. The tour offers insight into the history of Potosí and the significance of its mining culture, directly observing the lives of the workers.
Be prepared for the altitude; proper acclimatisation is recommended. Wear sturdy footwear and consider bringing a jacket as the temperature can be cooler underground. Ensure you're physically ready for a realistic glimpse into the labor-intensive tasks of mining.

I had Jhonny as my guide, and since no one else booked, I enjoyed a private tour. Jhonny was very knowledgeable about the mines and the local culture, having been an ex-miner himself. He could answer all my questions and provided plenty of photo opportunities. Additionally, I’m currently learning Spanish, and Jhonny was patient in helping me practice. It's worth noting that there are numerous passages, and it would be easy to get lost without a guide. Jhonny seemed to have the layout memorized, though he humorously pretended to be unsure of his way at one point. If you're visiting Potosi, this tour is essential because of the rich history. Just a tip: bring some extra cash to buy water and coca leaves for the miners you'll meet along the way. It can be dusty, so a mask is advisable if you have one, and it might not be suitable for those who are claustrophobic.
A great tour to experience with friends when you have the time. Bolivia is an incredible destination with rich stories and history. Just be ready for a lengthy stay.
I had a terrible experience with Bamba and the local operator Andes2Amazon. After booking the 1:30pm tour from Uyuni to Potosí, I was informed the night before that only the 8:30am tour was available, which I obviously missed. I spent the entire day trying to reschedule for the next day, but Bamba didn't respond to any of my messages. When I contacted Andes2Amazon directly, they informed me that my previous reservation was marked as a no-show, despite the last-minute change. My request to simply pay cash for the tour was also denied. This entire situation ruined my excitement about visiting Potosí and seeing the mines.
