We had a fantastic time exploring Cockscomb Wildlife Preserve with Edgar. He picked us up promptly in Hopkins Village and provided engaging insights during our short drive to the preserve. Choosing to hike before tubing was the best decision, as the trails were serene and full of wildlife. After enjoying a refreshing swim in a stunning waterfall pool, we floated down the river in tubes, taking in the lovely jungle scenery. Following our adventures, we savored a Mayan lunch that was the highlight of our meals during the trip. Huge thanks to Edgar for an unforgettable day; these memories will stay with us forever.
Our family recently completed a trip to Belize that featured two tours from Untame Belize: Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary and Xunantunich/Cave Tubing. Both were guided by Edgar, who was exceptional! He was knowledgeable, passionate, and presented information about the local culture, cuisine, and the various sites we visited in a way that greatly enhanced our enjoyable and enlightening experiences. We wholeheartedly recommend Untame Belize and especially Edgar.
Edgar was an exceptional tour guide, full of knowledge, and he provided a wealth of information about native plants and animals. He made every effort to ensure we saw what we wanted to see. Although I didn't spot any howler monkeys since they were hidden in the treetops due to the rain, he did point out their calls. The rain made it a bit challenging, but he ensured we saw toucans, which was a highlight for me. Be ready to carry your tube; it helped keep us dry initially until we encountered heavy rain while floating down the river. Edgar tried to shelter us under trees, but we eventually embraced the rain and floated. Luckily, the rain did stop, and we had a nice hike to the waterfall while drying off.
Edgar proved to be an exceptional guide, full of knowledge and very friendly. He highlighted various plant species and signs of animal presence that we would have overlooked. We chose this tour to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it turned out to be a memorable day, thanks to the stunning views during the hike and tubing, along with delicious Mayan food for lunch. Our gratitude goes to Edgar and Untame Belize for this experience.
It was a truly beautiful day. Our driver, Hes, was excellent and took us to a fantastic local lunch spot on our way back from the excursion. William, our guide, was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. The tubing and waterfalls were incredible, but be ready for some hiking! Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would rate it a perfect 10 and would definitely do it again.
Our day with Edgar was amazing. Although wildlife was limited, we spotted a red brocket deer, a king vulture, and some turtles. Edgar’s extensive knowledge about the preserve’s flora and fauna enriched the tour. The trek to the tubing was easy, and the float on the river was enjoyable. While reaching the waterfall involved a steep climb, it was a brief section of the hike, and the waterfall more than compensated for the effort.
Our day with Edgar was fantastic. He proved to be a very informative and friendly guide, adapting easily to our preferences in Cockscomb. He’s a genuinely great person. We also enjoyed a delicious meal at the end of our trip, making it hard to part ways with Edgar.
The tours in Belize are fantastic, and the tour guide truly enhances the experience. I’ll detail the tour and highlight the guide's contributions. Overall, we highly recommend this as a relaxed outing for adventurous individuals or families with young children. The tour included lunch, transportation from the Placencia Peninsula, and all necessary fees. The pace was leisurely, featuring a brief, gentle hike to the water followed by tubing on the river. The waterfall was stunning, providing a perfect spot to swim. The tubing experience was easygoing and allowed for full enjoyment of the natural surroundings. Our guide, Edgar, was exceptional—energetic, cheerful, and very accommodating despite my food poisoning. He assisted my partner in identifying various birds and was responsive to our needs, making our experience as pleasant as possible. He arranged lunch for us, shared historical insights, and truly went above and beyond.
The duration of this tour was perfect. We started with a walk to Ben's Bluff for the view before enjoying a refreshing swim at the waterfall. The guide was helpful in searching for a tamandua, but we didn’t spot one. Tubing was both fun and relaxing. One small suggestion: while the itinerary was outlined online, it would have been beneficial to have the day's schedule shared clearly at the start, as we had to keep asking about it and what to bring.
Edgar guided our group on a tubing adventure and waterfall hike. While he suggests flip flops for the hike and claims to have done it barefoot, I advise wearing sturdy water shoes or hiking sandals. The tubing was enjoyable but a bit energetic due to lower water levels. Edgar proved to be an excellent guide, picking us up from our rental, providing water, introducing us to country reggae in the van, taking us to a fantastic local lunch spot, and sharing countless facts about Belize. I highly recommend this experience.
