The Fort of the Magi, or Forte dos Reis Magos, is a star-shaped fortress located at the mouth of the Potengi River, completed in the 17th century to protect the settlement from maritime threats. Built by the Portuguese using local materials, its well-preserved structure features thick walls and a central courtyard, providing insight into colonial military architecture.
Visit during the late afternoon for the best views of the ocean and the surrounding beaches. The coastal path leads to the nearby Praia do Meio and historic Ribeira neighborhood, both worth exploring. Take note of the strong winds; they can be particularly intense near the fort.
