Kawah Putih, or White Crater, is a striking volcanic lake located in the Ciwidey region, about 50 kilometres south of Bandung. Formed by the eruption of Mount Patuha, it features a turquoise crater lake surrounded by white sulphurous deposits and lush green hills, creating an otherworldly landscape that attracts both tourists and photographers.
Visit in the morning for the best light and to avoid crowds, as this site can become quite busy later in the day. Nearby attractions include the picturesque Tangkuban Perahu volcano and the tea plantations of Ciwidey, both enhancing the natural beauty of this mountainous area. The scent of sulphur can be pungent, so come prepared.

“The tour was initially just for Kawah Putih, but our guide, Cokey, suggested we also visit Rengganis Crater, which added another 100,000 rupiah and an extra hour of travel. Cokey was not insistent, and the suggestion turned out to be worthwhile. He communicated in excellent English and kept us entertained with his stories during the journey. I also want to thank the driver, whose name I don’t recall, for his steady and safe driving. After the tour, we followed their advice to visit a massage place.
