This place is truly a must-visit, even if the crowds are a factor, which is typical in China. The parking area is a bit of a walk from the attractions, but the path is paved, making it manageable for those who need to proceed slowly. While there are many steps at the temple, taking your time allows you to appreciate the mystery and sanctity of the location. The temple forest dedicated to ancestors was especially magnificent, providing a quiet and sacred atmosphere. The Longmen Grottoes are definitely worth the journey, and trolley buses can take you near the extensive viewing area, although accessing the cave carvings involves many stairs. For those with mobility issues, I recommend viewing from ground level. The serene river acts as a beautiful backdrop, and the bridge on the other side provides a distant view of the larger carvings. Trolley cars can take you back to the remote parking lot, so remember where you parked to avoid getting lost, as we did. The language barrier made finding our driver quite challenging. Although the day was exhausting, we were left thoroughly impressed by the sights.

Everything was well-coordinated. The driver was on time and quite helpful. Our tickets for the Shaolin temple and Longmen Caves were already secured when we departed. Although the driver didn’t speak English, we communicated easily with the translator. Using WeChat to confirm meeting points and delays was very handy.
Exploring the Longmen Grottoes and the Shaolin Temple was a highlight of my trip. The grottoes are stunning, featuring thousands of ancient Buddhist statues carved into the cliffs. The giant Buddha statue was particularly impressive. The Shaolin Temple also stood out with its beautiful historic architecture and the rich atmosphere, offering a glimpse into the origins of Shaolin Kung Fu. A special thanks to my guide, Alice, whose friendliness and extensive knowledge enhanced the tour. She provided clear insights into the history and cultural importance of each site, ensuring I had an excellent experience. I would strongly recommend this tour to anyone in the region.
