Half-day trip from Whitehorse — scenic views at Miles Canyon, Emerald Lake, Carcross Desert, and gold panning experience.
This half-day tour offers a snapshot of the Yukon’s scenic highlights. Starting from Whitehorse, the first stop is the viewpoint over Miles Canyon, significant for gold stampeders’ journeys to the Klondike. The tour continues along the South Klondike Highway to Emerald Lake, celebrated for its vibrant color, before heading to the Carcross Desert, noted as the smallest desert in the world.
After a brief orientation in Carcross, there's time to explore local artisan shops or enjoy the beach at Bennett Lake. On the return trip, you can try gold panning at Caribou Crossing and keep anything you find. Additionally, don't miss the chance to interact with fluffy husky puppies that are sure to delight. The entire excursion typically wraps up within a half day.

The "Yukon Gold Experience" tour was fantastic. Our guide shared captivating stories from the gold rush period, and the scenic stops for photos added to the enjoyment. I highly recommend this experience.
Having been inspired by Pierre Berton's "Klondike The Last Great Gold Rush," I finally explored Yukon's Gold Rush sites in September 2024, guided by James Major from Epic North. Before the tour, I faced some disappointments in Whitehorse, such as the closure of the S.S. Keno riverboat site and the museum's limited focus on Berton's work. However, James transformed the experience. His passionate storytelling, particularly about goldrush prospectors navigating perilous rapids at Miles Canyon, brought history to life every day. James provided an authentic glimpse into the goldrush era.
James Major from Epic North is an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and patient guide, which was particularly helpful for me as a senior. He was quick to offer assistance whenever I seemed unsteady. After a week with him as our guide, I can confidently say he deserves a flawless rating. My husband, DavidO, shares my sentiments and provided additional details in his earlier review.
Becka was wonderful and tailored the trip to fit our preferences perfectly. We experienced some amazing areas of Yukon. She was punctual, and everything went as planned. I highly recommend this tour.
Although labeled as a half-day tour, it actually occupied much of the day. We had a wonderful time with our driver and tour guide, Becca. She provided insightful information at every stop and eagerly took photos for us. She has the potential to be a guide on a global scale.
The trip was delightful. Becca was an outstanding and knowledgeable guide who shared fascinating stories. We traveled to the British Columbia border, passing beautiful lakes and visiting Miles Canyon, Emerald Lake, Bennett Lake, Carcross, and the Carcross desert. The adventure concluded with a gold panning experience where I even found some gold flakes.
The tour offered an excellent range of sights, including Mills Channel, Emerald Lake, Carcross Desert, Carcross town, and The Wilderness Centre, which featured gold panning, a museum, and a dog sled demonstration. It was an entirely enjoyable experience.
Having followed Goldrush on Discovery for years, we finally got to experience our own Goldrush adventure with Epic North and our fantastic guide, Juan. We even had the chance to meet Michael Beets at a coffee shop, which was an added bonus.
Great value for the experience. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, ensuring the trip maintained a comfortable pace. There was some overlap with the Skagway tour, as Carcross served as a restroom and coffee break stop.
Juan was an excellent guide and driver, taking the time to stop at various locations for photo opportunities. The overall experience was outstanding.
