My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour experience. Although we couldn't book through our cruise line, I discovered this tour was identical. It was easy to access the shuttle into town and then catch another to the docks for our boat. Once aboard, we were fortunate to have a lovely sunny day perfect for taking photos and enjoying the scenery. The crew shared fascinating insights about the region and various glaciers. We arrived and prepared for our canoe journey to the glacier, where we had plenty of time to appreciate its beauty without feeling rushed. During our return to port, we had the chance to see sea lions sunbathing and making quite a bit of noise, as well as some waterfalls from the boat. It was an enjoyable experience that I highly recommend. If booking through the cruise line isn't an option, consider using Trip Advisor. Our pick-up and drop-off were punctual, and we have nothing but wonderful memories from this adventure.
This was a unique experience. It was fascinating to spend time with the young people “camping” near the glacier. Unfortunately, the glacier is receding, and you can no longer touch it. Otherwise, it's a five-star experience.
It was a fantastic experience even with the rain. The team was incredibly helpful, providing the needed gear, being courteous, addressing our questions, and capturing great photos.
I had a great time on the tour. Our guide, Harlen, was excellent—he was very informative, helpful, and made sure my socks stayed dry. The glacier was incredible and definitely worth it.
During our Alaskan cruise, we explored different daytime excursions and ultimately chose the glacier and wildlife tour. We were extremely satisfied with our decision, as the staff was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and committed to ensuring we had an enjoyable experience. Canoeing was a lot of fun and brought us in close proximity to the glacier, and the trek through the wilderness enhanced the second part of the canoeing. On the return boat ride, we were thrilled to see a humpback whale up close, along with several large seals lounging on a rock and swimming nearby. Overall, it was an incredibly enjoyable day that we would highly recommend.
This experience was a blast, thanks to the boat crew, Christian and Emily, who were both entertaining and informative. We spotted seals and sea lions and enjoyed a dynamic day with a hike followed by canoeing upriver to the glacier sands. Tanner, Chelise, and Lauren were all very friendly, competent, and well-informed.
The excursion was enjoyable, though not as physically demanding as we anticipated. What truly made it outstanding was our boat guide, Carrington, who was the best we've experienced. She was personable, engaging, and very humorous, with extensive knowledge across various topics related to Alaska, including local wildlife, geology, biology, history, conservation, climate change, and indigenous culture. Her commitment to accuracy and respect for Alaska's people, wildlife, and environment distinguished her from other guides. Carrington clearly puts in the effort to offer an authentic representation of Alaska, and we left truly amazed by how much we learned from her. I highly recommend her.
Our wilderness safari was an incredible experience. The trip offered stunning scenery and enjoyable activities on the boat, as well as paddle and hiking. The guides were excellent, and the equipment was top-notch. I highly recommend it.
We chose this expedition over a train ride to better engage with Alaska, and it was an excellent decision. My husband, our three kids (ages 9-14), and I all enjoyed it immensely. The hour-long boat ride featured a friendly and knowledgeable naturalist who shared insights about the land, water, and wildlife, including seeing many cute seals on the shores and bald eagles soaring above. While we didn't spot any whales or otters, we truly appreciated the stunning scenery. After reaching the beach, we took a short ride in an old school bus, where three enthusiastic guides helped us don rain gear and boots. They regularly reside on the island with limited comforts and each led a canoe carrying about ten individuals. We canoed to another location, explored a small rapids area, and then paddled to the glacier. The guides deemed it safe for us to beach the canoes and walk towards the glacier, which was breathtaking with its vivid blues. This experience was highly worthwhile, enhancing our Alaska adventure. I recommend booking with Alaska X rather than through the cruise line for a less crowded and likely more affordable option.
There's no need to bring waterproof hiking boots since you'll have to leave your shoes at the camp and wear their waterproof boots for the hike and canoeing. The experience was just average for the price per person. Our female guide shared a wealth of knowledge about the area, making the lengthy boat ride more enjoyable and informative. However, there wasn't much to see; perhaps it was due to the timing in September, but during the hike through the forest to the canoes, we only noticed two or three nature items. While we got close to the glacier during the canoe ride, it was still quite distant, and we couldn't hike any nearer. I heard that regulations had changed, preventing close hikes to the glacier. It also felt like time constraints played a role, as there were other tours scheduled after ours. This might be suitable for those who enjoy boats and water, but if you're hoping to see a glacier, this isn't the ideal choice.
