Solo (Surakarta) in Semarang — view 2
Solo, known as Surakarta, is a city in Central Java that showcases a blend of Javanese cultural heritage and modern influences. Visitors are greeted by the grand Keraton Surakarta, a royal palace constructed in the 18th century, notable for its intricate architecture and rich history. The city is also home to the vibrant Pasar Klewer, one of the largest textile markets in Southeast Asia, full of batik and other traditional crafts. Exploring Solo is best done on foot, particularly around the historic districts where temples and colonial buildings line the streets. The city hosts numerous cultural performances, especially during the Dieng Culture Festival in August, celebrating local traditions. Take note of the busy traffic in the city, especially during peak hours near the central market.

Full-day tour by private transport — explore Mangkunegaran Palace, Sukuh and Ceto Temples, with insights into local history and culture.

The two temples are nestled in the mountains, and I really enjoyed the cool climate and the beautiful scenery along the route, particularly the stunning rice farms. The temples, especially Ceto, and the overall atmosphere were fantastic. Just be mindful that this tour requires quite a bit of driving, as Solo is relatively far from Yogyakarta and traffic can be unpredictable.SightseeKana on the Palace and temple tour from Yogyakarta to Solo tour

Eight hours by private car — visit Sukuh and Cetho temples, Radya Pustaka Museum, and Mangkunegaran Palace, including hotel pickup in Yogyakarta.

This tour was a great mix of city exploration and nature, alongside cultural experiences at Cetho and Sukur temples. These sites are less well-known compared to Borobudur and Prambanan, but their stunning settings and cultural significance make them worth the visit. Our driver, Halim, was accommodating and supportive throughout.Ilham_G on the Cultural tour of Solo temples from Yogyakarta tour
