• Located in a region recognized for premium wine and fine dining, Safari West provides a family-oriented activity in wine country, suitable for children. Upon arrival at the preserve, situated about a 20-minute drive north of downtown Santa Rosa, you will meet your safari guide and board an open-air Jeep to start your wildlife excursion through the ‘Sonoma Serengeti.’ For three hours, you will explore the 400-acre (162-hectare) reserve by both Jeep and on foot, navigating uneven dirt paths in search of exotic animals. Throughout the journey, your guide will share insights about the wildlife present, including endangered species like the Cape buffalo, springbok, blue wildebeest, and red lechwe (a type of antelope). You will learn about Safari West’s efforts to conserve these remarkable wild animals. As you drive, you will see various herds of African animals, such as gazelles, zebras, oryx, antelopes, and the ever-popular giraffes, which may approach the Jeep for a closer look. Afterward, you will exit the vehicle with your guide for a walking tour lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes. You can admire flamingos and other vibrant birds in the open-air aviary, observe cheetahs closely, visit Lemur Island, and enjoy the playful behavior of the monkeys. When the tour concludes, there will be an opportunity to visit the gift shop for souvenirs like jewelry, T-shirts, and African art. You may also choose to dine at the on-site Savannah Cafe (cost not included; refer to the Exclusions for more details). Please ensure to provide your contact information (e.g., an 'on the road' phone number) at the time of booking.
