Our visit to Safari West was quite disappointing. The experience did not meet our expectations in many aspects. While the walking tour was slightly more engaging, it featured only a few animals, like monkeys, birds, and a fox. The much-anticipated safari drive lasted almost two hours but primarily involved driving through areas dense with trees and very few visible animals. We spotted some antelope, zebras, llamas, rhinos, buffalo, and giraffes, but they were all far away. There was no real interaction or immersive experience with the animals. It felt more like passing by a farm than an authentic safari. In comparison to a standard zoo, Safari West had far fewer species while charging nearly five times the cost. Ultimately, the visit was disappointing, failing to warrant the expense or time, and I cannot recommend it. It certainly does not measure up to an African safari or even a well-managed local zoo.
The safari with Dano was fantastic, as he provided a wealth of interesting information about the animals and the natural environment in the park. It was astonishing to see that he knew each animal by name. Thank you for this incredible experience.
Safari West provided an incredible adventure. The guide's extensive knowledge truly enhanced the experience. Thank you.
What an amazing safari experience we had in Northern California. We thoroughly enjoyed our ride through the landscape and learned so much from our driver and guide, Kimberly. There’s a lot to discover about the animals, and we also noted the lodging options available. Although we didn't stay, those we encountered who did shared positive feedback. It’s clear they care for the animals and have thoughtfully designed habitats for each species.
Our guide Denise displayed impressive knowledge about the animals and expertly answered all our questions. This experience felt like a genuine mini African Safari, which I have had before, with a wonderful assortment of animals. The organization's care for environmental impact, animal health, and species conservation was evident. The three-hour tour flew by, and I particularly enjoyed observing the baby rhino.
A fantastic destination for family or friends, Safari West features exceptional staff and an outstanding tour experience. Compared to traditional zoos, this privately owned reserve surpasses expectations with its focus on animal preservation. With various packages available, including overnight accommodations in tent homes, it's an ideal setting for children to learn about endangered species and the efforts to protect them.
This experience was on my bucket list, and I finally got to check it off this year. Our guide, Gina, was excellent. It felt like a true immersion with animals much closer than other places, roaming freely. We started with a fun truck ride offering great views and ended with a leisurely hike. The highlight for me was seeing Ozzy, the baby rhino. We were fortunate with lovely weather. We also chose to have lunch afterward, which was quite good. I plan to return this summer for a picnic.
Our time at Safari West was nothing short of remarkable, providing one of the most cherished experiences I've ever shared with my son. Right from our arrival, the atmosphere was a perfect blend of adventure and thoughtful design, featuring fascinating animals, breathtaking views, and a strong emphasis on conservation and education. Witnessing my son’s joy as he encountered giraffes, zebras, and rhinos up close was invaluable—this is the sort of experience that fosters lasting memories. The two female ostriches were a favorite of mine and certainly put on a great display. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly our guide, Killan. She was extraordinary and brought the safari to life. Her impressive knowledge was only outshone by her enthusiasm, warmth, and ability to connect with both children and adults. She communicated everything in an engaging, accessible manner, answered all our questions with patience and passion, and ensured everyone felt excited and included. My son was completely mesmerized by her stories and it was evident how deep her love for her work is. Killan's energy, professionalism, and kindness transformed a good experience into an exceptional adventure. I wholeheartedly recommend Safari West, particularly for families. If you have the chance to be guided by Killan, you're in for an exceptional treat. We left with joyful hearts, wonderful pictures, and lasting memories. Thank you, Safari West, and especially Killan, for such an unforgettable experience. We will undoubtedly plan to return for another adventure, possibly to try glamping.
Having lived in Sonoma County for years, I was shocked to discover Safari West just a week before our visit. My niece and I went last summer and were truly amazed. The setting is remarkable, featuring giraffes, rhinos, ostriches, storks, and more across what resembles an authentic savanna nestled in the California hills. The animals enjoy ample space, making the experience feel far from a conventional zoo. The highlight for us was riding atop the open-air truck. What we thought would be a nice addition turned out to be the best part of our day. From up there, we were at eye-level with the giraffes and immersed in the experience, feeling like we were part of the action. Our guide was knowledgeable about the animals and created a fun, informative atmosphere without being overly formal. If you are in the North Bay and haven’t gone yet, don’t wait for a reason—just visit. It’s an exceptional wildlife experience situated just off Highway 116. Every penny spent is worth it, and we are already making plans for another trip.
The location is incredible. Our safari tour in the spacious jeep with Gina, our fantastic guide, was exceptional. Witnessing giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and many other African animals roaming freely in such a beautiful area was unforgettable. While we didn't stay, the property has a camping site and a lovely restaurant that we recommend. Be sure to check out the boutique—it's essential. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable, making it suitable for couples, friends, and families alike. A true gem.
