We had a fantastic day in Monterey. Ben was very accommodating in planning our itinerary and offered additional suggestions for our short stay in California. Our driver, Carlos, was friendly, accommodating, and clearly communicated the schedule. Everyone, including our young adult children, enjoyed the trip, which struck a perfect balance between driving and exploring. Although we only had a day to see Big Sur, Carmel, and Monterey, this tour inspired us to return for a longer visit.
The experience in Monterey, California, and its nearby treasure, Big Sur, was truly captivating, offering a perfect mix of stunning scenery, peace, and outdoor activities. The drive along the coastal route connecting these two locations is absolutely remarkable. Traveling along the Pacific Coast Highway provides breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean, with coastal cliffs, crashing waves, and rugged landscapes turning every curve into a visual treat. Both Monterey and Big Sur feature fantastic hiking options suitable for all nature lovers. The trails wind through dense forests, along cliff edges, and lead to spectacular viewpoints that highlight the region's beautiful coastal vistas. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for a gentle walk, there’s a range of trails that allow everyone to appreciate the area's natural splendor. The multitude of scenic locations, including iconic sites like Bixby Creek Bridge, enhances the charm of the trip. For those wanting to relax in nature, enjoy stunning views, and have unforgettable outdoor experiences, Monterey and Big Sur are perfect destinations.
The driver arrived on time for pickup, and the SUV was quite comfortable. A detailed itinerary was provided a few days in advance, outlining each stop clearly. Given the vastness of the area from Monterey to McWay Fall, a longer trip would be ideal, but this one-day tour effectively showcased the highlights from Carmel to McWay Fall. It was a relief to have a driver who expertly navigated the narrow, winding roads and knew the best spots for taking great photos. We didn’t have to worry about driving or parking. Just be aware that stops for eating and shopping may feel a bit rushed, particularly at Pfeiffer State Park, so keep them within 30 minutes to see everything and complete the tour within 8 hours.
This tour allowed me to capture stunning photos of the California coast. Carlos was an excellent guide who took us to hidden gems that truly made the experience memorable. Thanks, Carlos! I highly recommend this to everyone.
This is truly a must-visit location. The breathtaking view is incredibly serene. I recommend bringing a sweater due to the wind. The arch is beautiful, and the beach was nearly empty during our visit, allowing us to observe stars and various crustaceans.
The drive featured numerous S curves, yet the stunning beaches and rock formations more than made up for it. The nearly century-old Bixby Bridge is incredible, and the stops offer breathtaking views.
Our driver was very knowledgeable and took us to some fantastic spots, providing insightful commentary about the areas. Carlos highlighted various details that we would have overlooked on our own.
The coastal drive was stunning, particularly through Carmel-by-the-Sea. Juan was very accommodating to our schedule and ensured we got to see all the sites we wanted. We truly loved the experience!
The tour offers some scenic views, but overall, it didn't leave us amazed. Our guide was accommodating, yet we felt the historical context of several sites was missing. Ben, the guide, spoke with a noticeable Mexican accent, making it difficult to understand him at times. We passed through beautiful farmland, but there was uncertainty about the types of produce being grown, which the driver also couldn't identify. The highlight was Carmel, where the unique designs of private homes suggested they belonged to the wealthy. While the Big Sur area didn’t impress, we enjoyed a good meal at a charming restaurant fitting for the surroundings.
My wife and I participated in this excursion from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. While the coastal views were magnificent, we found the itinerary to be unrealistic. The Highlights: Juan, our guide, made the experience enjoyable. He was informative and took us to some stunning locations during the initial part of the trip around Monterey and the Bixby Creek Bridge. The Issues: The main problem was the timing in relation to the itinerary. Even with an 8-hour trip, we felt rushed and didn’t have the opportunity to visit the "Possible Stops (S)" or "Points of Interest (V)" outlined in the schedule. Missed Locations: We had no time to explore Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, missing out on hiking among the redwoods, and didn’t even stop at Nepenthe / Café Kevah to admire the Pacific Ocean. We skipped lunch and refreshments, yet still couldn’t cover all the listed points of interest and stops, even with brief "photo ops" at the end. Inaccurate Planning: It seems mathematically impossible to visit all the sites (Monastery Beach, Garrapata, Bixby, Pfeiffer Redwoods, etc.) within 8 hours while leaving from San Jose, especially if you wish to actually explore rather than merely observe. Final Verdict: The trip was "good" due to the breathtaking scenery and Juan's excellent guidance, but for the price, it lacks value. The organizers should either extend the trip duration or adjust the itinerary to be more realistic about what can be accomplished. If you decide to book this, anticipate a "drive-by" experience instead of a true "exploration."
