Reviews
We booked a two-day trek to Sirena Station in Corcovado National Park with Corcovado Wild Tours, expecting a positive experience, but it turned out to be hazardous and draining due to the agency’s inadequate preparation and honesty. The itinerary they provided failed to mention the trek's actual difficulty, which involved hiking 20 km in extreme heat and humidity through dense jungle and deep sand. The company's priority appears to be selling as many tours as possible, showing little regard for participants’ readiness. During the trek, one person collapsed at around 4:30 PM after experiencing panic attacks and losing consciousness multiple times. We were left stranded on a remote beach with no means of communication or first-aid supplies. Our water supply of 2 liters per person was insufficient. At 7:30 PM, our guide, who was helpful, had to leave us to seek assistance due to the absence of phone signal. We were isolated and without support for over five hours in a dark area known for jaguars and snakes. Rangers finally reached us at 10:30 PM and confirmed the agency lacked any rescue or communication plan. It was sheer luck that no one suffered fatal consequences. The next day, instead of showing concern, the owner filmed us without our permission, spoke to us in a disrespectful manner, and proposed a series of contradictory refund options: a full refund, nothing, 50%, and finally USD 100 or USD 20 per month for three years. He even brought up lawyers to intimidate us. Out of the USD 730 we paid, he later disclosed that his profit margin was about 50%, which is outrageous given the severe lack of safety and organization. There are other agencies in Puerto Jiménez that offer similar experiences for significantly less money and with proper safety measures. This company demonstrates a total absence of professionalism, safety protocols, and respect for clients. If you prioritize your safety and finances, steer clear of Corcovado Wild Tours.
Everything about the trip was excellent: the preparation was thorough, it was easy to obtain free rubber boots on site, and our guide was remarkable. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, capturing great photos for us and ensuring we experienced a lot. He was also attentive to the group, creating a good atmosphere.
This tour was truly an extraordinary experience that surpassed my high expectations by far. Carlos, our guide, was exceptional—ensuring everyone had the chance to see all the animals with his impressive spotting skills and a great attitude, while also caring for our well-being. I highly recommend doing the overnight tour; the likelihood of more wildlife sightings is significantly increased. During our extra excursions, we encountered many things that I believe would have been missed otherwise, making it even more enjoyable. They are very well prepared to cater to everything. I would gladly do it again.
We had an excellent experience with Corcovado Wild tours. I highly recommend the two-day tour. Our guide, Carlos, was knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. We learned so much and encountered various animals, including snakes, tapirs, anteaters, monkeys, and more. It was truly an unforgettable experience, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.
I highly recommend this excursion. Our guide Melvin had an excellent understanding of wildlife, allowing us to see numerous birds, tapirs, sloths, and various monkeys. He was also a talented photographer who assisted us in capturing wonderful pictures. We gained extensive knowledge about the flora and fauna of Corcovado Park. Staying overnight in the park gave us the chance to explore the trails at various times of the day. The communication beforehand was clear and prompt. Overall, it was a delightful experience.
My wife and I participated in the overnight Sirena Station tour, and our guide Carlos was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable. From the start, it was clear how much he loves guiding in the park. As a naturalist, he is well-versed in the region's flora and fauna. We gained a deeper understanding of the rainforest and its connection to the wildlife during our time together. Carlos’s expertise extends to birds and local wildlife, making him a superb teacher. The park itself was magnificent, and we observed a wealth of wildlife—we even lost count! We encountered all four species of monkeys, including numerous spider monkeys, along with at least six Baird's tapirs, a variety of birds, insects, snakes, and some endemic species. Corcovado is truly a natural wonder and an essential destination in Costa Rica. We arranged our tour through Green Leaf Hotel in Drake Bay, and the scenic boat ride to and from was an added bonus. I highly recommend this exceptional tour.
