Half-day tour of Mayapan archaeological site followed by a refreshing swim in a cenote.
This half-day excursion takes you to the archaeological site of Mayapan, known as the last capital of the Maya during the postclassic period. You’ll have the chance to explore the ruins and learn about their historical significance.
After touring the site, the experience continues with a swim in a beautiful cenote, offering a refreshing break in the crystal-clear waters. Expect to spend ample time both at the ruins and the cenote, so swimwear and comfortable footwear are recommended.

This experience felt like a complete scam. The guide did not accompany us into the ruins, the van lacked air conditioning, and the price didn't cover entry fees for the cenote or the ruins. They were late for pickup, resulting in only about 15 minutes at each location. We had to switch vans midway because one was unregistered, which made the situation feel very questionable, and we nearly asked to be taken back to the port. I would advise against booking this excursion.
The tour was significantly disorganized, starting two hours late as we waited for other participants at the pier. Once we reached Progresso, only my travel companion and I exited the van, while everyone else continued with a different tour. Our guide was friendly and did his best, but his limited English meant we missed out on a lot of information about the Mayan ruins, which were intriguing. I had high hopes for the cenote visit, but when we arrived, I was the only one swimming. Our guide helped me navigate the unsafe steps into the cenote, as there were no lifeguards or life vests available. There were also no snacks or food included, unlike other tours. To make matters worse, we were supposed to be back by 2:00, but at 3:00, we were still an hour away and our guide hadn't been informed about our timing. We started to panic since the ship was set to leave at 4:00 and all passengers needed to be onboard by 3:00. Our guide contacted his boss, Pepe, who refused to help properly. Instead of driving us directly, he sent us to the bus station, only to find no buses were operating. Pepe, who had the necessary credentials, took his time driving us, despite the urgency. We arrived after 4:00, just as the ship was about to leave at 4:30. I cannot recommend any tour associated with Pepe, although our guide showed great potential with proper English skills.
This was the absolute worst experience we've ever encountered. The van felt extremely unsafe with no seatbelts and an ineffective car seat. After a last-minute tour change due to rain, the alternative was terrible, and we weren't given an option to cancel until we were already in the van. We ended up seeing "dinosaur fossils" and flamingos from the roadside. I've used the service many times before and loved all my tours, but this one guarantees I won't use it again. The whole thing felt like a scam, and our request for a refund was turned down. If you're visiting Progreso, just go to the free beach instead. Avoid these scammers at all costs. I can't stress enough how awful this was. My two-year-old even got sick during the bumpy, fast ride due to the lack of restraints. Zero stars.
This excursion was excellent. Our guides, Super Mario and Spicy, did a fantastic job. The Mayan ruins were incredible, and I only wished we had more time to explore them. The cenote swim was breathtakingly beautiful, and the lunch afterwards was really delicious. I will surely participate in this again on my next visit to this port.
Antonio was a kind and knowledgeable guide, and we enjoyed a private tour of the stunning Mayapan Ruins and Nayah Cenote. However, there were issues with the day. Jose was absent at the cruise ship terminal when we arrived at 8:35 for our 8:30 meeting time. Since Antonio only spoke Spanish, we managed with Google Translate, but it was challenging. Additionally, we had to cover the entrance fees for Mayapan ($12) and Nayah Cenote ($16), which felt unexpected given the $530 cost for the tour for our family of four. The shuttle in Progreso was chaotic, as many tourists were returning at the same time. After arriving at the bus terminal at 2:30 PM, we waited 35 minutes for the bus and reached the cruise ship by 3:20, just 10 minutes before the boarding deadline. A lot of people were still at the terminal at 3:30. While it was considerate that the cruise held the ship for late arrivals, I would have preferred a more direct drop-off at the terminal to avoid the bus situation.
Arturo and Jose were our guides, and they provided a wealth of information while being incredibly helpful. Although the bus ride was lengthy, it was manageable. The Mayan Ruins were stunning, making it an unbelievable experience to explore. My three sons and I enjoyed climbing the ruins and discovering the area, despite the heat. Swimming in the Cenotes was a highlight, with beautiful scenery and refreshing freshwater. My family had an excellent time, and I would highly recommend this tour. Arturo and Jose were exceptional guides.
We had a fantastic experience with the whole team. Bianca guided us for the day, and it was an excellent tour that went beyond our cruise options, offering plenty of personal interaction since there were only seven people in our group.
It was a fantastic experience; however, I would have preferred that the original ruins were accessible. Antonio was an outstanding guide who provided us with a wealth of knowledge.
Jose coordinated our trip, Jorge led as our guide, and Shaggy drove us around. After leaving a Margaritaville cruise, we walked through a market to catch the Progreso shuttle. Although Jose had to change our intended ruins and cenote sites last minute to lesser ones due to distance, he didn't offer a discount when we asked. On the positive side, Jorge was an outstanding guide, sharing plenty of historical insights, helping with pictures, and allowing us to take our time. Shaggy expertly handled the tricky streets, making us feel safe throughout the journey. Overall, I would recommend this experience.
The pick-up was delayed, and I had to call four times due to their confusion. I didn't get to visit the Mayan ruins or the cenote that I had paid for. Additionally, there were no water or snacks provided. The only positive aspect was that the driver was very kind.
