Two hours along the coastline — guided oyster tasting and education at Coffin Bay, with optional South Australian wines available for purchase.
This two-hour tour along the coastal waters near Coffin Bay begins with a scenic cruise, setting the stage for what's to come. Once you reach the oyster farm, a knowledgeable oyster farmer will guide you through the history and techniques of oyster farming, including tips on shucking.
You’ll sample freshly shucked oysters straight from the farm, with the option to purchase local South Australian wines to complement your tasting. An interesting aspect of the tour is its connection to the Native Angasi Oyster Reef Restoration program — every oyster shell you consume contributes to the restoration efforts. Note that a minimum of four people is required for the tour to proceed; you’ll be informed if this condition isn't met.
Reviews
The oysters were unlike any I’ve ever tasted before, and both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed. Scotty, our host, provided excellent insights about oysters, while Kirsty did a remarkable job shucking them. I would definitely return.
Scott's enthusiasm for the oyster industry is infectious. This was easily one of the most fascinating experiences we've had. I had no idea about the effort that goes into oysters. His engaging presentation was polished and entertaining. It's a must-do.
The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable, with drinks that were fairly priced. The knowledgeable staff struck a perfect balance, staying engaging without being over the top or dull. The freshly shucked oysters were juicy and delicious, complemented by optional condiments that weren't even necessary. A special thanks to Liz, our host, and the owner/ skipper. I highly recommend this experience.
The experience was excellent, starting on time and featuring friendly staff. I learned a great deal about the history of Coffin Bay and oyster farming. It was very relaxing, and the oysters were delicious. Thank you, Rachel and Kristie.
The crew was excellent, and the boat offered a comfortable experience. The information shared was informative, and the oysters tasted wonderful. The weather was ideal that day. While there was acknowledgment of the First Nations people, the narrative suggesting they left voluntarily felt insincere and misleading.
My daughter and I had a fantastic time. The oysters were delicious, and we will certainly do this again. The weather was perfect, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, teaching us a lot about the local culture.
We opted for the brief 90-minute tour that featured six oysters. Our hosts, Scott and his assistant Kianne, greeted us warmly. Scott provided a detailed and engaging account of Coffin Bay's history, covering the nearly 100 years of native Angasi oyster harvesting, its decline in the 1940s, and the resurgence of Pacific oyster farming since the 1960s. He clearly cares about the local ecology and is knowledgeable about the oyster farming industry. Thank you, Scott! Your presentation was both intelligent and humorous. The bar prices were reasonable, and we enjoyed a Wanna Ale and a piccolo of Bird in Hand sparkling wine with the incredibly delicious Pacific oysters. I would certainly recommend this experience.
The tour was both friendly and informative. Chris displayed a great deal of knowledge and addressed all our questions in an understandable way. Linda prepared the oysters fresh, which we really enjoyed. Great job, Chris!
I gained a lot of knowledge about Coffin Bay oysters, which are incredibly tasty. The experience was both educational and relaxing, covering the oyster lifecycle. Visiting this location is essential for anyone in the area. The captain and his assistant served us freshly prepared oysters that were absolutely delightful. I truly appreciate the experience and would gladly drive from Adelaide just for Coffin Bay Oysters in the future.
This tour was incredible and truly worth every penny and moment spent. We gained extensive knowledge about oysters, particularly those found in Coffin Bay and its surroundings.
