Our visit to the Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre was undoubtedly one of the most impactful wildlife encounters we've ever experienced. The beautiful natural landscape and the clear dedication to animal welfare immediately impressed us. This experience goes beyond simple observation; it provides an insightful education that fosters a profound connection with South Africa's native wild cats. Tenikwa's efforts in education, rehabilitation, and conservation are truly commendable. Witnessing these incredible animals up close in environments that reflect their natural behaviors was remarkable. We learned a lot about their challenges and the importance of their protection. However, it was our guide, Boniwe, who made our visit truly special. From the start, Boniwe's deep knowledge and genuine passion for the animals were evident. Her storytelling, personal anecdotes, and heartfelt affection for each animal enriched the entire tour, making it feel personal and engaging rather than just a series of facts. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and she skillfully addressed our questions while ensuring we felt involved. Boniwe's talent for spotting even the most elusive cats and sharing intimate details about their personalities and histories allowed us to glimpse into their world. The centre benefits immensely from her warmth, expertise, and strong connection with the wildlife. She is an exceptional representative for both the animals and Tenikwa. After leaving Tenikwa, we gained a richer understanding of these wild cats and left with lasting memories, thanks to Boniwe's excellent guidance. We highly recommend the Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, and if you're fortunate enough to have Boniwe as your guide, consider yourself very lucky. This experience is essential for anyone who is passionate about wildlife and conservation.
This experience was fantastic! Bonnie, who was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, let us into some enclosures for amazing photos while she fed the big cats. Thank you, Bonnie; your natural warmth makes you a valuable part of the sanctuary. We really enjoyed our private tour of Tenikwa and loved our conversation with you. Sending big hugs from your friends in the UK.
We had a wonderful experience during our private wildlife tour on Thursday the 8th, largely due to our exceptional guide, Msizi Shange. His extensive knowledge and connection with the animals made the visit special. The overcast weather was a plus, keeping the animals visible rather than hiding in shade. While lions, cheetahs, and leopards can only be viewed from behind a fence, we were able to get quite close. There were numerous opportunities for photographs. Walking among African wild cats, servals, and tortoises was memorable. Additionally, we enjoyed seeing caracals, a few penguins, cranes, herons, and lively meerkats. We highly recommend this destination.
We enjoyed an incredibly fascinating private tour today. The insights we gained about the animals and their rehabilitation process were excellent. Our guide, Sandile, was exceptional in his explanations and truly conveyed his passion for the animals. Highly recommended.
What a fascinating and stunning location! There are numerous cats and birds present. The room is very lovely, spacious, well-decorated, and clean. The staff is truly exceptional.
Tenikwa is a must-visit every time we are in Plettenberg Bay. It's a fantastic small animal rescue that allows close encounters with the animals. The staff and owners are friendly and accommodating, and we appreciate the intimate tours. The gift shop has also seen significant improvements, and we’ve picked up some great items there. Supporting this rescue is truly worthwhile, as they help animals that might not otherwise make it.
I had an incredible experience. AYA was an outstanding guide, funny and knowledgeable the whole time. I only wish it could have been longer. It was a fantastic opportunity to observe big cats up close, and I would absolutely do it again.
This was an enjoyable and informative experience. I learned many facts I hadn’t known before the tour. There were great opportunities for taking photos, although it was quite hot. The guide was very friendly.
We participated in the full-day tour which featured a tasty breakfast and lunch. Our guide, Davidson, was exceptional and very knowledgeable. The entire team went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience, demonstrating genuine care for the animals in their care. I was particularly impressed by their No Self policy, ensuring that the resident animals are those unable to survive in the wild. The tour included a forest walk and a chance to see the remarkable care given to every animal, including the ibis. Injured animals are brought to the facility, where we learned about their rehabilitation and the process of returning them to the wild. If you can't stay for the full day, I highly recommend the shorter tours, which are just as informative. A heartfelt thank you to the Tenikwa team for a memorable experience and your commitment to the animals.
This was truly a fantastic experience. The accommodations were comfortable, the Boma dinner was excellent, and it was easy to navigate the premises safely. The animals are also well looked after.
