Three hours of kayaking—explore Alligator River for wildlife sightings including black bears, red wolves, and various waterfowl.
This three-hour kayak trip showcases Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, a sprawling 125,000-acre preserve. Guided paddling through this rich ecosystem allows for potential sightings of black bears and endangered red wolves, as well as a variety of bird species like snowy egrets and great blue herons. The refuge once hosted logging and whiskey distilling operations during Prohibition, adding a historical layer to your paddle.
Be prepared for a blend of scenic wildlife and fascinating history throughout your journey. Kayaking is a leisurely way to navigate the waters and observe the diverse fauna in their natural habitat. It’s advisable to dress in layers and bring sunscreen, as the weather can change quickly on the water.

The trip was wonderful; I had some concerns about my elbow due to tennis elbow, but it turned out to be a relaxing and easy experience, with stunning scenery throughout. We even spotted an alligator swimming in front of us.
We enjoyed a lovely morning kayaking with 15 family members. Although we didn’t encounter much wildlife, Kel and Mike provided insights into local fauna, the refuge, and the history of the area. We've previously booked with Coastal Kayak during our visits to the Outer Banks and have always had excellent service.
Gavin provided an excellent experience today. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and very patient, especially considering tandem kayaking isn't our strong suit. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and even spotted an alligator along with a fearless turtle. Thanks to Gavin for everything.
Kayaking on the Alligator River was an amazing experience. We spotted two alligators along with numerous bird species. Our favorite part was paddling through the channels, surrounded by the stunning trees and plants.
It was a pleasant and leisurely paddle. Our guides, David and Cole, were excellent, sharing insights about the surrounding area as we paddled. Overall, it was a very relaxing experience.
Paddling through the canals and observing the wildlife was a memorable experience. The guide was very supportive, highlighting sights and sounds that I would have likely overlooked.
A great way to explore the region beyond the beach. I really enjoyed the canoe channels, and the guide was very helpful, answering all of our questions.
Our kayak trip was delightful. The environment was tranquil, and our guide, Maria, displayed great knowledge and attentiveness. While the animals were somewhat elusive that day, we did spot a gator and several turtles. I considered it a worthwhile experience.
Maria, our guide, was fantastic! My family of seven had a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Everything went seamlessly, allowing us to relax and appreciate the sights while kayaking.
The trip itself was wonderful, but the kayak I was given was in terrible condition. The seat was so reclined that I had no back support while paddling, and none of the adjustments worked. If this were my business, I wouldn't feel comfortable offering such a subpar boat to clients.
