Three hours on the banks of Shem Creek — private cooking class featuring shrimp ceviche and a traditional Lowcountry boil under Captain Bryan's guidance.
This private cooking class unfolds over three hours along the scenic Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. Gather at a food trailer with wrap-around bar seating, where you'll learn about Charleston's shrimping heritage and start with a fresh shrimp ceviche using local ingredients.
Under Captain Bryan's guidance, participants engage in an enjoyable shrimp peeling competition before preparing a traditional Lowcountry Boil. This dish includes local shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes, all seasoned just right. It's a great local culinary experience, but please note that guests with shellfish allergies cannot participate, and dietary substitutions are not available. Solo travelers should call ahead to confirm availability for the next class.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. It was truly unique, featuring tasty food, stunning views, a dolphin visit, and insights into Charleston's shrimping history. It made for a wonderfully fun evening. Book it—you won't regret it! Thanks to Bryan for a fantastic night!
Our experience with Capt. Bryan and his wife for a sunset Lowcountry shrimp boil was fantastic. As locals celebrating a friend's 40th birthday, it was the perfect choice. The scenery by the water, complemented by the shrimp boats and sunset, was breathtaking, and the food was fresh and delicious. Capt. Bryan and his wife were warm and made the evening truly special and enjoyable. This is a one-of-a-kind local experience that deserves support. We will surely return.
This spot on Shem Creek is a true hidden gem. The venue is small, allowing for attentive service and ample food, perfect for taking leftovers home. I loved hearing great shrimp stories and cooking tips. The food was fantastic, and both Bryan and Adrienne were delightful.
Capt Bryan is an incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining host. After enjoying his Hops and Prohibition Tour, we excitedly signed up for his shrimp boil cooking class. It was a delightful evening, offering valuable insights into the local shrimp industry, and it truly surpassed dining out at a restaurant. The location was also excellent. I look forward to returning on my next trip!
Bryan is an exceptional host with extensive knowledge about the area and the industry. He is the most friendly and honest guide I've encountered. I would gladly book any tour with him.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience exploring the local shrimping industry, learning about various shrimp types, and indulging in a wonderful low country boil. Captain B and his wife Adrian made ideal hosts. The views from Shem Creek were stunning, and we were even fortunate enough to see dolphins swimming by. It was a fantastic time and comes highly recommended.
Captain Bryan is truly exceptional. His expertise and storytelling kept us engrossed throughout. He embodies the spirit of Charleston hospitality. The shrimp cooking class offered fascinating insights into the shrimping industry and its various species. The preparation of the appetizer and boil was both fun and delicious. The warm, family atmosphere he creates enhances the whole experience. It was also lovely to meet his wonderful wife, Adrianne. This experience is essential for anyone visiting Charleston. It’s a must-do.
As locals, we heard from the news that many restaurants in Charleston don't serve local shrimp, so when family visited, we wanted to experience it ourselves. We had an incredible time tasting the fresh local shrimp. “Capt B” informed us that the season had just opened, bringing in the first batch of fresh shrimp. While the ceviche was likely our favorite, the shrimp boil was also outstanding. We appreciated the insights Capt shared about the industry and enjoyed connecting with new friends, all while supporting local shrimpers. This is an experience I would highly recommend to both locals and tourists.
The experience was wonderful, offering stunning views of Shem Creek. It genuinely felt like a local experience that is rare to come by. The food was also exceptional, rated 10 out of 10.
