Having visited Monument Valley before, we were excited to explore Mystery Valley this time. This experience allowed us to delve into the canyons and reflect on how ancient peoples lived. The petroglyphs and pictographs sparked questions about their origins and stories. Our Dineh guide, John, was outstanding, not only highlighting artifacts but also enriching our understanding of Dineh culture and its evolution. He truly brought the culture to life for us.
The Mystery Valley tour, located about 20 minutes from the main park area, offers a unique perspective. We also experienced the sunrise tour of Monument Valley, showcasing two distinct sides of the park. Led by John, the tour concentrated on ancient peoples, cliff dwellings, pictographs, and petroglyphs. He provided in-depth insights on plants, their medicinal uses, local wildlife, and Dine’ culture and spirituality. His engagement and wealth of knowledge made the experience truly exceptional. I highly recommend it, especially the morning tours, which are cooler and less crowded.
Elvis, our tour guide, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The tour was enjoyable and offered interesting historical insights about the area. We particularly loved when Elvis played his wooden flute.
This tour takes you to a stunning, less-traveled area with ancient pre-Columbian homes and petroglyphs. Our guide was warm, cheerful, and provided detailed insights throughout the experience.
Elivis is fantastic! This tour brings you to locations that you wouldn't encounter while driving in a car, making it a must-do experience. I gained a lot of knowledge about the area's vegetation, wildlife, and various rock formations thanks to Elivis. I just wish I had an address to send Halibut from Alaska.
The Monument Valley tour is essential, but if you can, I strongly suggest the Mystery Valley tour too. It's filled with captivating scenery. Our guide, Clint, was excellent.
Following our morning tour of Monument Valley and the backlands, we joined Duffy for an afternoon adventure. Fortunately, we had a private experience since we were the only guests at that time. Duffy shared in-depth stories about the Dine people, their rituals, and their connection to nature. He guided us through the stunning and rugged scenery, allowing us plenty of time to explore. We climbed rocks to discover caves with ancient dwellings and arches. Duffy also took lovely photos of our family and engaged our children throughout the tour. This experience comes highly recommended.
This experience is long overdue to share! During our holiday road trip, we visited numerous National Parks in Utah and the Grand Canyon, and realized Monument Valley was on our route. We opted for a private 3.5 hour tour with Dineh Bekeyah Tours, which was remarkable. Although you can explore the 17 mile Scenic Drive on your own, the guided tour offers access to areas you wouldn’t reach otherwise, allowing for a deeper understanding of Monument Valley as well as Diné culture and history. The scenery is truly breathtaking and unique. Many of our photographs appeared as if they were edited, but they are entirely authentic. Our guide, Chandler, significantly enhanced our experience with his knowledge, kindness, and enthusiasm. He taught us so much, and it was a bonus that he had a strong background in cinema history and a passion for photography, capturing stunning images for us. Notable experiences included a place for crafts and jewelry, delicious frybread accompanied by adorable black kittens, a traditional Navajo home (hogan), discussions on geology and history, and breathtaking views. The tour undoubtedly stood out as a highlight of our travels!
On our second day at Monument Valley, we took a tour of Mystery Valley. The sights we encountered were far beyond what you would see on a typical unguided tour. Our guide, Sariah, offered fascinating insights into her people's history while skillfully navigating what could loosely be called "roads" into the valley. Located about five miles south of Monument Valley, the experience was vastly different. I highly recommend setting aside time for this tour; it’s truly worth it.
The tour was truly magnificent. The diverse landscapes and the opportunity to explore arches, wall dwellings, and learn about Dineh culture made it unique. We discovered 2000-year-old pot shards, petroglyphs, hogans, and an array of intriguing geology. Time passed quickly. Our guide, Harry, was excellent, sharing stories and cultural perspectives. I would gladly join this tour again.
