Four hours of guided trekking at Puclaro reservoir — stargazing and astrophotography in one of the clearest skies on Earth.
A four-hour night walk begins with pickup from your La Serena accommodation, heading to the Puclaro reservoir, about 16 km from Vicuña. The trek starts from a nearby village, and you'll walk with the assistance of headlamps and walking sticks.
Once at a strategic viewpoint, you'll take in the stunning night sky, with minimal light pollution for optimal stargazing. An introduction to prominent constellations precedes your astrophotography session, where you’ll use the unblemished night sky as your backdrop. Ensure you dress warmly and wear suitable trekking footwear, and bring a backpack with at least half a litre of water. After the session, you’ll return to your vehicle for drop-off back at your accommodation.
Reviews
The nighttime sky was beautiful, but I slipped twice due to loose rocks. The description indicated a walk, but it turned out to be more of a moderate trek. The guides were all wearing hiking boots.
This experience was truly remarkable. The views are unbeatable. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable, creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The tranquility is truly enticing. I would rate it a perfect 10 out of 10.
Our evening walk with Fernanda was truly wonderful. She maintained the perfect pace and altitude while sharing her extensive knowledge about the nature, history, and culture of the Elqui Valley. Make sure to wear good shoes and prepare for a memorable night.
This was an incredible experience. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, fluent in both Spanish and English. There are two routes to the photo location, one easier than the other, but the more challenging path is definitely worth the effort. The hike is quite demanding but extremely fulfilling. Make sure to wear hiking or trail shoes. The views are stunning, and the photos are magnificent. I highly recommend it.
