What's the itinerary?+
• The Hana Highway stretches for 64.4 miles (103.6 km), recognized as the longest coastal scenic route globally. The highway continues east of Kalepa Bridge to Kipahulu as Hawaii Route 31 (Piilani Highway), featuring 59 one-lane bridges, more than 640 turns, and paths through lush tropical rainforests. Most of the bridges consist of concrete and steel and have been in existence since 1910. • About four miles into the journey to Hāna from Kahului, you will encounter the historic town of Pāʻia on the north coast of Maui. This welcoming community was once a thriving plantation town during Maui's sugar cane boom. Currently, Pāʻia features colorful rustic storefronts showcasing local art, unique boutiques, and various dining options. • A suitable location for a light breakfast while observing local surfers and sea turtles, as well as taking photos of the renowned North Shore coastline. Restrooms are available. • Twin Falls represents the first easily reachable series of waterfalls and pools along the Road to Hana. • Haipua'ena Falls is a smaller waterfall and pool located on Maui's busy Road to Hana, which typically sees fewer visitors due to its unmarked trail and a brief hike over a frequently muddy path. • Small Hawaiian communities thrive by adhering to traditional practices, such as pig hunting and cultivating taro, breadfruit, and bananas. This area is home to the infamous Half Way to Hana Snack stand, known for shave ice, fresh coconut, chilled drinks, and the Original Fresh Baked Banana Bread. The Keanae overlook and peninsula provide views of one of the largest taro farms in Hawaii. • In 1983, Aunty Sandy Hueu began baking her renowned banana bread in Keʻanae, Maui. In 2003, her daughter Tammy joined the family business to create an authentic, family-owned food stand on the Keʻanae peninsula. Aunty Sandy's has become a popular stop for freshly baked banana bread. • A very picturesque spot where adventurous photos can be taken. • Upper Waikani Falls, commonly known as Three Bears, is characterized by three parallel waterfalls of varying lengths, with the smallest being the "baby bear" falls on the right. • Wailua Falls is a stunning yet easily visible waterfall accessible from The Hana Highway, allowing you to view it without exiting your vehicle. • Lava tubes form when enormous lava flows cool on the surface, creating an insulating pathway for the flowing lava beneath. During the formation of Maui’s volcanic landscape, these tubes acted as conduits for lava over extensive distances until they were deposited as new landmass, often beneath the ocean. As many of Maui's surfaces solidified long ago, only a few significant lava tubes remain, with Ka’eleku Cave being the largest known accessible one on Maui. • Hana Beach Park, located within Hana Bay, features a long black-sand beach and is recognized as the safest swimming beach along East Maui's coast. The bay has protective coral reefs and is sheltered from significant swells due to its curved shape. • Wainapanapa is known for its Black Sand Beach and freshwater caves, boasting a cobalt blue ocean framed by black sand and lava rocks formed from a recent volcanic flow about 10,000 years ago. Visitors can stroll along the bay's edge or relax under shade trees. This area is ideal for a one-hour visit, with a picnic-style lunch served here. Swimming is at your own discretion. Restrooms are available. • Pua'a Ka'a Falls, located in the Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park, is one of the few waterfalls along the Hana Highway that allows swimming at your own risk in the freshwater pools. Restrooms are available. • Just past Mile Marker 19 on the mauka—or mountain side—of the Hana Highway, Upper Waikani Falls is also known as Three Bears
