Evening trip to Mt. Haleakala for sunset viewing at 9,740 feet, dinner included.
This tour takes you to the summit of Mt. Haleakala in Haleakala National Park, where you watch the sunset from an elevation of 9,740 feet. Unlike the popular sunrise trips, this evening option offers a less crowded experience as you take in the sunset's warm glow over Maui's lowlands.
Included in the tour is dinner, allowing you to relax and enjoy a meal before or after the sunset observation. This trip offers a unique perspective on the island's volcanic landscape and is a great way to unwind after a day of exploration.

Avoid booking the Haleakala Maui Sunset Tour or any tour with Polynesian Adventures. The organization was terrible; we received two confirmations but ended up waiting in the scorching Maui sun for 45 minutes without our driver. When I called for an update, the call went to Oahu, and I was disconnected multiple times. Eventually, I was informed that the driver would arrive in an hour. I expressed concerns about potentially missing the sunset after paying over $500 for two people, and the response was vague, saying we "might" make it. We declined the tour and requested a refund, only to receive a voicemail as we walked back to our villa about an Uber driver picking us up. This was not a knowledgeable tour guide, just someone unfamiliar with the area. We could have easily driven ourselves or ordered an Uber at a lower cost. We expected a guide to enhance our experience, but it turned out to be a huge letdown. This was my first poor experience using Trip Advisor/Viator, despite having used it extensively in the past. I wish I could rate it lower than one star.
The guide was very knowledgeable, the bus ride was comfortable, and the view was absolutely stunning. I would rate this experience an incredible 11 out of 10.
I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction with the Haleakalā Sunset Tour we experienced yesterday with Polynesian Adventures. We arrived early for our 1:15 pickup and were greeted by the shuttle driver, who made an inappropriate comment to one of our passengers about his weight loss. The ride took over an hour as we circled to pick up additional guests, stopping twice at Safeway without explanation. Upon reaching the transfer point, we joined five other passengers. I inquired about the likely weather at the summit, but the driver's vague response gave me little confidence. While he was knowledgeable about the island, at the summit we saw very little sunshine in the 90 minutes we waited; the driver had just spoken to a park ranger who noted the poor visibility. The sandwiches and salad were dry, and we had to balance our meals on our laps, with only lukewarm coffee, tea, or hot chocolate offered. It was clear the beverage was not fresh, as it was prepared four hours earlier. After an uneventful summit experience, we faced further issues when our return pickup point had changed without our driver being informed, leading us to take a 30-minute detour. To top it off, there were three vehicles for our group when only two were necessary. Ultimately, we lost eight hours of our vacation with no views—a situation due to nature, I understand—but combined with the lack of refreshments, the driver's comments, and the cost of over $250 per person, the entire experience was not acceptable. My group and I were all quite unhappy with this tour.
This was a fantastic experience. Our bus driver, Alfredo Al Pacino, was very knowledgeable and kept us engaged throughout the tour.
I regret spending eight hours on this tour. After being picked up, we wasted an hour looking for other guests and visiting two strip malls without success before reaching the tour bus. The drive up the mountain was disappointing, with a driver who was aware of the poor weather conditions. At the top, we encountered no visibility and received a meager box dinner with a sandwich and salad, which we had to eat on our laps. There was no bottled water available, only warm tea that had been served hours earlier. On the way back, we were taken to the wrong transfer point, adding another hour to our trip. Having spent five hundred dollars, this was a dreadful experience, and I would have preferred to relax at my hotel instead of enduring such a miserable day.
The sunset and scenery were truly spectacular. However, I want to warn potential travelers that this tour isn't just a straightforward bus ride as advertised. After being picked up at our hotel, we had to transfer to another bus, resulting in a 40-minute wait without any explanation from the driver. Consequently, most of us remained on the bus instead of being able to explore the plantation stop. When we finally reached the mountain summit, our pre-ordered meals were provided. One sandwich was supposed to be modified due to allergies, but the driver, who had the meal list, handed over our five meals, and that specific order was incorrect. As a result, the individual couldn’t eat, only to discover afterward that there had been an appropriately prepared meal available, but it went to someone else. On the return trip, we had to transfer buses again. This driver inquired if our meals were satisfactory, which raised the question: why wasn’t the first driver attentive to our meal requirements? Additionally, a disabled traveler faced significant challenges with the constant bus changes.
It was a wonderful tour with tasty sandwiches. The driver was not only skilled but also very knowledgeable. If you are prone to motion sickness, it's wise to take precautions.
Our guide, Al Pacino, was fantastic and very informative. We had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner and take in the stunning sunset, which was truly remarkable.
The cloud cover was disappointing as it obstructed any view of the crater, sunset, or anything else noteworthy.
The drivers were both friendly and well-informed. Although it was cloudy when we started, the skies cleared just in time for us to capture a beautiful sunset.
