Full-day tour by private car, including stops at Balbanera Church and Chimborazo Volcano's refuges for stunning views and a short hike.
This full-day trip from Guayaquil takes you to Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest volcano at 6,263 metres, known for its unique altitude being furthest from the Earth's centre. You'll make a stop at Balbanera Church, which offers a chance to admire its historical architecture before heading to Chimborazo.
The journey includes a drive to the first refuge of the volcano, where you can take in panoramic views of the surroundings. From there, a hike to the second refuge is a great opportunity to appreciate the breathtaking landscapes up close. Don't forget to dress for altitude and bring water, as the air can be thinner here.
Reviews
The tour was truly exceptional. Chimborazo graciously revealed its stunning snowy summit. The journey was a beautiful 5-hour drive through Ecuador's picturesque mountains and roads. Climbing from 4800m to 5000m presented a challenge we embraced, and it was absolutely rewarding. The view from the second refuge is breathtaking.
The tour was truly fantastic. We were treated to Chimborazo's breathtaking peak, with alpacas either gathering together or roaming freely. We hiked from the first refuge at 4800m to the second one at 5000m. It was a challenging trek that took a while, but we were eager to test our limits. I believe this tour is absolutely worth both the time and the investment.
Juan Carlos, our driver, and Alexandra, our guide, were excellent. We sought a challenging hike, and while it was under 2 miles, the altitude above 16,000 feet made it difficult. Alexandra handled it effortlessly. The scenery was breathtaking, and despite the lengthy car ride, Juan Carlos was wonderful, allowing us to experience much of rural Ecuador. We enjoyed lunch at a cozy local spot with delicious food. On our return, Juan Carlos made a stop at a fruit stand for some fresh bananas and mangoes.
