Approximately five hours in a 4x4 — explore bighorn sheep habitats, scenic overlooks, and a waterfall in Rocky Mountain National Park.
This five-hour guided tour in a 4x4 vehicle takes you through the highlights of Rocky Mountain National Park. The tour begins with a drive by the historic Stanley Hotel, followed by a stop at an energy vortex and Sheep's Lake, known for its bighorn sheep sightings. A brief stroll leads you to a picturesque waterfall, ideal for photography.
Ascend via Trail Ridge Road or Old Fall River Road, experiencing three distinct ecosystems at elevations over 12,000 feet. A pause at the Alpine Visitor Center provides a chance to visit the gift shop and capture views of the glacial cirque. As you descend, there are planned stops to stretch and enjoy the expansive mountain views, with opportunities to spot diverse wildlife, including moose, elk, and various birds.

The trip up the mountain with James was fantastic, filled with his entertaining dad jokes. He guided us on several short hikes we might have missed otherwise. We participated in the "Top of the World" tour, which is something you could potentially do solo if visiting the National Park. If I had the chance to do it again, I would choose one of the 4x4 tours to access areas we couldn't drive to ourselves. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and James was outstanding.
I discovered this place through Trip Advisor, where the reviews were outstanding. After contacting them to book the Top of the World Tour, even when our friends had to cancel, the staff remained incredibly positive and friendly. Upon arrival, we found them just as welcoming in person. We drove up on a Sunday after two rainy days in Boulder, and the weather ended up being beautiful. I wanted to revisit Rocky Mountain National Park since we had been there 48 years ago shortly after our marriage, and I preferred not to drive myself, making this tour a perfect choice. You can park for free and take the riverwalk, which is easy and absolutely stunning. The custom vehicles were unique, and the thick, soft blankets came in handy, especially at 2 miles above sea level. The assortment of snacks included candy and cookies. Our guide, C.E., was not only engaging but also knowledgeable; it was clear he has a passion for Rocky Mountain National Park. He shared historical anecdotes, personal experiences, and insights about the park’s geology and wildlife while we made several stops at waterfalls, scenic viewpoints, and his favorite spots. We even paused to watch birds, mule deer, elk, and turkeys. Overall, we enjoyed immensely while letting C.E. handle the driving. I can’t recommend WildSide highly enough.
This tour is an absolute must for anyone visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. We had a fantastic time, and our guide Treese was exceptional. After having already taken a different tour in June, my husband and I sought a new experience for our fall leaf viewing with our 17-year-old son. The weather was perfect, and the open vehicle combined with the cozy blankets provided made the experience even better. My husband accidentally left his jacket at our hotel, but the staff kindly loaned him one for the tour. They also offered snacks and drinks, and Treese captured many great photos for us while sharing interesting and informative insights. She made an effort to spot wildlife, although it didn’t happen that day; she mentioned the elk might be in town, and sure enough, we saw plenty of them later just outside the park. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour; I believe it would be outstanding at any time of year, but the fall experience was truly wonderful.
Leo, my tour guide, was fantastic. He shared an abundance of information about the forest, led us to beautiful spots, and treated us exceptionally well. I highly recommend this tour.
I can't speak highly enough of this company and the experience we had. The 4x4 Winter on the Rocks S'mores Jeep tour was incredibly fun! We joined friends, and our guide, "Indiana Joe," was attentive to our requests, tailoring the experience to our preferences. This excursion features its own mountain, a thrilling backroad "roller coaster," a fire pit area, and a lookout tower. It was an amazing way to see Estes from a different perspective, and I felt it was worth every cent for the three-hour adventure. Our guide even assisted us in spotting an elk herd, which was a fantastic bonus. The provided warm blankets and the choice between an open or covered jeep made the ride very comfortable, and the hot cocoa was delightful. We participated in the afternoon during overcast skies with light rain before it cleared up, and we enjoyed every moment of it. I highly recommend checking out 4x4 Wildside Tours; you won't regret it.
CE was an exceptional guide who provided extensive knowledge about local plants, animals, and the history of Colorado. This was truly the best tour experience. I highly recommend it!
The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind throughout the experience. With a smaller group, our guide Joe didn't rush us and extended our time in the park by an hour. He led us on a hike to the top of the waterfall, where we enjoyed crossing to the other side in the cold water. His knowledge was impressive, providing us with valuable insights. This experience is ideal for families with small children. For a more adventurous outing, consider exploring one of their other tours.
We had an amazing experience on our trip. Theresa, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and made the journey enjoyable. We will always cherish our memorable day, thank you!
We had an excellent time with our tour guide, Joe, who was both informative and entertaining. He made every effort to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. The tour offered us a wonderful overview of Rocky Mountain National Park. I highly recommend this experience.
During a brief trip to Colorado from Boston, we stumbled upon wildlife tours while heading back to our hotel. Our experience on the wildlife tour in Estes Park was truly exceptional, largely due to our guide, Joe. His knowledge, engagement, and passion for the area and its wildlife stood out. He answered all our questions with great detail and enthusiasm, ensuring we noticed everything along the way. This tour was undeniably the best we’ve ever experienced. We walked away with wonderful memories, fresh insights, and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife and scenery. I highly recommend this tour, especially with Joe as the guide.
