Having Benjam as our guide made our first safari in Kenya truly unforgettable. From the moment he picked us up, his warm welcome made us feel comfortable. On the drive to the national park, he shared insightful information about the trees and plants we saw. At the park, he answered all our questions professionally, showcasing his 18 years of experience. His driving skills also contributed to our peace of mind. We appreciated how he respectfully let animals pass and turned off the engine to avoid disturbing them. We encountered lions, elephants, pumbas, zebras, giraffes, and many more. This engaging and heartfelt adventure was thanks to Benjamin, who consistently made us feel at ease. If you're interested in learning about the animals in Tsavo National Park, we highly recommend choosing Benjamin as your guide. Kevin and Peggy from Germany.
The rooms are quite compact, yet pleasant. The restaurant offers a lovely atmosphere and boasts an expansive view where you can see elephants coming to drink.
My experience at Saltlick was transformative. Ranger Denis provided vivid and engaging explanations about the nature around us. I truly enjoyed my time there and can't wait to return to relive those moments.
Our trip with Benjamin was absolutely perfect. He is a genuinely nice and caring guide who went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed the tour. We had a fantastic time on the safari.
If you have your heart set on a room at the Salt Lick Lodge, I strongly advise booking directly with the lodge rather than relying on Wildbond. I made a reservation with Wildbond in October 2025 for a safari and stay at the lodge in late January 2026. I stayed in contact with Wildbond, confirming multiple times that a room was available. They assured me that the lodge had a room with a view of the watering hole for us, which was supposed to be a highlight of our Kenya trip. However, while in Kenya, I received a message from Wildbond about a week before our stay, informing me that the lodge was fully booked and they couldn’t accommodate us. I felt devastated and angry, as they had previously confirmed our reservation. They then offered an alternative night at a “spa,” but I didn't want that; I wanted my assured room at the lodge. It seems Wildbond either lacks a solid relationship with the lodge or never truly made the reservation for us. Overall, the entire situation was frustrating and unprofessional. If you genuinely want a room, book directly with the lodge and steer clear of Wildbond.
The experience largely relies on the communication with the company and the tour operator. In my case, I encountered multiple confusing issues. Most frustratingly, they attempted to alter my hotel reservation despite me having already received confirmation. This caused me a lot of stress for several days.
The tour guide was a competent driver to Tsavo West National Park, but he struggled as a guide once we arrived. He provided minimal information about our stay at the outdated Salt Lick Lodge, and the meals were just average. During the game drives, he spoke very little unless prompted by questions, and another passenger frequently identified the animals instead. When we did ask for information, he often misunderstood our questions, leaving us with little insight about the safari wildlife. Friends who took the same trip also expressed disappointment. We were disheartened by the poor guidance, especially considering the over 4.5-hour drive from our cruise ship each way, not counting the game drive time. I recommend visiting Tsavo East for better close-up animal viewing, which is only three hours away.
This experience was incredible. The accommodations were well-organized and nicely furnished. The staff was exceptionally kind, the food was great, and the room was extremely clean and comfortable. My guide and driver, Edward, was a true gentleman—calm and discreet yet dedicated to finding the best spots for animal sightings.
We had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed the experience.
