I did not see any dolphins on this trip. The pickup took around 4 hours due to crowding, and I spent that entire time in a hot car without air conditioning. We arrived late, and the boat captain informed us it was too late to see the dolphins. I spent $100 for this experience, only to be disappointed. Instead of a proper excursion, they asked for tips despite not providing a service, leaving me tired, in a bad mood, and feeling like I wasted both money and vacation time. If you want to see dolphins, it's better to rent your own transportation early in the morning and book a spot on a boat. Don't repeat my mistake; doing it this way will be much cheaper and more comfortable than enduring 8 hours in a car without air conditioning.
The staff were friendly and did their utmost to assist us, which I appreciated. However, we only saw two dolphins during the trip, and none in the designated swimming area, making it misleading to label it as a swim with the dolphins tour. The coral we snorkeled over was mostly dead or dying, which was disappointing. While I understand that nature can't be controlled, better expectations should be set. It’s better to underpromise and overdeliver than the other way around.
The dolphin watching and boat ride were enjoyable. However, there were some problematic business practices that left a negative impression. We were promised bottled water but had to buy expensive water at a tourist trap before arriving. During lunch, the restaurant claimed they had run out of water, forcing us to purchase juices at an extra cost. Additionally, the staff at the Wasini restaurant were unwelcoming, and the man who transported us between the boat and restaurant was quite aggressive in asking for tips.
I thoroughly enjoyed the dolphin tour and snorkeling experience in Wasini. Encountering dolphins up close was unforgettable, and the clear waters made snorkeling delightful. The stunning coral reefs and colorful fish were remarkable. The crew was professional, friendly, and ensured everyone had a wonderful experience. We also savored a tasty Swahili lunch on Wasini Island, which was a wonderful conclusion to the day. If you're in Diani, this tour is essential — a truly unforgettable experience.
The communication was seamless, everything ran on schedule, and the boat and snorkeling trip to Wasini was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it.
Be prepared to have extra cash for water and bring your own food. While every activity was enjoyable, I became frustrated when I was charged for water after the meal. My cellphone died, and I couldn't use M-Pesa.
The journey to the island was lengthy, taking five hours by van and boat, and we didn't see any dolphins during the trip. The snorkeling experience was incredible, yet we only had around 45 minutes before lunch, which was satisfactory. The guides were accommodating when I requested a tour of a local cave where slaves were held en route to the Zanzibar slave market, and that tour was remarkable. Overall, it was a good day, but we spent excessive time at the dock transitioning from the van to the boat. This time could have been used for more snorkeling. Additionally, we spent too long at the restaurant after eating, delaying our return home until 8 pm.
The pick-up and drop-off from the hotel were efficient. We had a brief dolphin sighting near the boat, and the snorkeling was enjoyable with plenty of interesting fish. The day mainly consisted of snorkeling and lunch, with a lot of time spent driving. The lunch was tasty with generous portions, offering options for chicken, fish, or vegetables, though the extra seafood options didn't justify their cost. It's advisable to wear rubber beach sandals, as there was a lot of walking to the beach and the corals were sharp, resulting in some cuts. After snorkeling, we had to wade through water to reach the lunch area. Overall, the experience was satisfactory but setting expectations lower is advisable.
The trip offers great value, but the meal experience is concerning. The toilet is only suitable in urgent situations as it lacks a flush, warm water, and a lockable door. The food hygiene is questionable, with flies on it, dry chicken, and uncovered fish and fruit. While the people are friendly, British travelers should be cautious, as there's a risk of getting ill.
The ocean can be a bit rough during the boat trip. The dolphins were incredible, but you can't guarantee a sighting. I felt incredibly fortunate to see them.
