What's the itinerary?+
• The guide will meet you at your hotel in Mcleodgang/Dharamshala to commence the journey to Kangra, starting with a visit to Masroor Rock Cut Temple. • During the trip, you'll pass through the Kangra Valley and a nearby village, providing an opportunity to appreciate the area's natural scenery and glimpse the daily lives of local residents. • The Masroor Rock Cut Temple complex is dedicated to Rama, Laxmana, and Sita, deities from the Mahabharata era whose stone images are revered by Hindu devotees from around the globe. The complex is situated on a hill overlooking a water pond, offering expansive vistas, including the snowy Dhauladhar Range. • Kangra Fort, constructed by the royal Rajput lineage of Kangra State (the Katoch dynasty), has historical roots tracing back to the ancient Trigarta Kingdom as referenced in the Mahabharata. It is the largest fort in the Himalayas and likely the oldest known fort in India. The fort endured a siege by Akbar in 1615 but was ultimately taken by his son Jehangir in 1620, leading to the submission of the Raja of Chamba, noted as the most significant ruler in the area. • According to legend, after Goddess Sati self-immolated in honor of Lord Shiva during her father's sacrifice, Shiva carried her body and began to dance in rage. To prevent his destruction of the world, Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to divide Sati's body into 51 pieces, with the left breast falling at this location, making it a Shakti Peeth. The original temple was constructed by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata. It is said that they had a dream in which Goddess Durga instructed them to build a temple in Nagarkot village for their protection, leading to the construction of a grand temple that was later repeatedly looted by Muslim invaders, including Md Gaznavi who plundered it five times. The temple was originally rich with gold and silver bells but was destroyed in a major earthquake in 1905 and was afterward rebuilt by the government. • You will have the chance to explore the local market in Kangra to find unique gifts and souvenirs. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be returned to your hotel.
