Reviews
The tour was conducted by excellent professional guides, and the transportation provided was dependable. The large, clean lagoon was impressive. We also enjoyed a delicious and authentic taco lunch.
I’m really happy I chose this tour so my parents, who are in great health, could hike with us. Our guide, a lifelong resident, provided insights that were unmatched. The vehicles were comfortable, though the road leading to the resort was quite bouncy.
The tour guides were excellent, particularly Joel, who brought a rich background as a local and of Mayan descent. His personal stories enhanced the experience. We enjoyed a lovely lunch by the lagoon with delicious tacos in a scenic setting, and we even had the chance to kayak for a while.
We truly enjoyed our tour. Diego, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Mayan history. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. He was also very considerate of my mom's needs, as she couldn't climb the steps, making the experience wonderful for us. Bacalar was a delightful stop as well. Although it was cloudy when we visited and we missed the stunning blue hues seen in pictures, it was still a great spot to unwind with tacos and cocktails.
Finding the meeting point was somewhat confusing. Even though we used a map, the location didn’t align with the tour company listed. We confirmed our names were on the list, and everything turned out fine. The bus accommodated around 15 people, and our guide, Maggie, shared her knowledge of the local culture and landmarks, using a tablet to show us pictures. We appreciated her teaching style and kindness, as well as our driver Manuel, whose driving made us feel secure. Our first destination was the Chacchoben Mayan ruins, where Joel guided us. He provided insightful explanations about the construction and purpose of the ruins, including the sensitive subject of Mayan human sacrifices. I learned a lot and was truly captivated by the site. Water was offered during the tour. Next, we visited Bacalar lagoon and enjoyed a delightful lunch of Mayan tacos under a lovely pavilion. There were four delicious varieties available, and we could eat as much as we wanted, with pico included. The tour also covered drinks and kayaking on the lagoon. Although the weather was a bit stormy, we didn’t let the rain deter us. Maggie explained that the lagoon has seven different colors, but we could only see about three due to the clouds. The return journey to port took roughly an hour and fifteen minutes. Manuel handled the heavy rain exceptionally well. We returned to port with about an hour to spare and never felt rushed or anxious about missing our boarding time. We truly enjoyed our tour and felt well looked after throughout.
Eliot was incredibly friendly and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about ancient Mayan history, the language, and the region. The Mayan city was fascinating, the food was delicious, and the lagoon stunning. I appreciated the small group size, though I would have liked a bit more time at both locations. Heriberto and Diego were also excellent.
