Ocean Beach Pier — places to visit in Carlsbad
Ocean Beach Pier in Carlsbad — view 2
Ocean Beach Pier is a 1,971-foot structure that extends out over the Pacific Ocean, making it one of the longest concrete piers on the West Coast. Completed in the 1960s, this spot offers panoramic views of the coastline and the chance to see local fishermen casting their lines against the backdrop of the ocean and city. Visit during the late afternoon for stunning sunset views, when the light reflects beautifully off the water. The pier is adjacent to Ocean Beach, a laid-back neighbourhood known for its surf culture, eclectic shops, and the popular OB Dog Beach, where dogs enjoy the surf alongside their owners. Consider bringing a light jacket; it can get breezy out on the water.

Customizable sailing trips for up to six guests, led by a licensed captain, departing from Oceanside Harbor with flexible durations based on your interests.

My family and I had a delightful 2-hour sunset sail with Bryan, who is an exceptional captain. Having experienced multiple sailing trips, I can confidently say this was the best. He was incredibly welcoming and made sure to engage us by discussing the different tasks involved in sailing. Bryan also let us select the music and choose between sailing along the coastline or venturing into the open sea. It was a fantastic experience for everyone, and I wholeheartedly recommend sailing with Bryan.Vivian_R on the Private sailing charter from Oceanside tour

Two hours on the ocean, guided by a certified marine naturalist — spot whales, dolphins, and sea lions with live commentary and educational materials provided.

The NALA was a new and pristine vessel. With only 27 ticket holders, it felt uncrowded. We were sheltered from the wind and sun while enjoying good views. The internal area had flexible plastic windows, so the clearest views were from outside that section. The crew was amicable. We spotted a pod of dolphins twice and one fin whale. While guests can't access the top deck for aerial views, the sea level perspective was enjoyable. Two hours is ideal if you see a whale; perhaps three hours would be better otherwise, though we extended our trip by 30 minutes to find the whale. A nice touch was the free fin whale sticker they provided at the end. The bathroom facilities were functional and clean, although we did not buy any food or beverages.JackieK635 on the Two-hour whale watching tour from Carlsbad tour
