Four-hour excursion featuring a boat tour on the Rio Cano Ondo and Rio Yasika, lunch at a tree restaurant, and a mini zoo visit.
This four-hour excursion offers a blend of nature and wildlife in Cabarete. The tour includes a relaxing boat ride along the Rio Cano Ondo and Rio Yasika, where you'll gain insights into the area’s medicinal plants. After the boat tour, enjoy lunch at a unique restaurant built among natural trees, with drinks not included.
The itinerary also allows a visit to a mini zoo housing crocodiles, iguanas, and various local animals. The tour includes transfers from Sosua and Cabarete. Don’t forget to explore the mouth of the Rio Yasika, known locally as La Boca.
Reviews
I had a fantastic time on this excursion. Tony is a kind and knowledgeable guide, and I appreciated his honesty. Even though my hotel wasn’t on the pickup list, he personally came to get me for an additional fee. The tour leaders were excellent as well. I ended up booking another tour!
As a young woman, I strongly advise against taking this tour or any of his. Although I initially thought it wouldn't be an issue to go alone due to the decent online reviews, I was mistaken. The driver did not act as a guide. While everything started off fine, things took a turn upon my return. The guide, Mackenzie, made inappropriate inquiries about my age, relationship status, and social media, which he didn’t ask the couple before me. Then, when Tony picked me up, he sexually harassed me with comments about my appearance and suggested I deserved a massage. After finally escaping the situation, he obnoxiously asked if I’d think of him, which I clearly declined. I can assure you that if I had been accompanied by someone or was a man, none of this would have happened. I reported my experience to Viator, but they did nothing; all they did was initiate a biased refund request through him. Instead, I had to dispute the charge with my bank after he refused to refund me. There are far better tour options available in the area, such as Michel Tours or Prime Tours, especially for women traveling alone. After my report, he tried to gaslight me by denying what happened and claiming I misunderstood. Overall, avoid any of his tours if you don’t want to endure unprofessional and inappropriate behavior. It's frustrating that companies can't be directly reported here, as he needs to be held accountable.
Visiting the Cabarete Caves was an incredible experience. I gained a wealth of knowledge about nature, history, and geology. I highly recommend this tour organizer as everything was very well arranged.
This experience was satisfactory but fell short of expectations. The mini zoo was disappointing, featuring only a few animals in small enclosures. The boat tour lacked guidance, as the guide mostly just imitated bird sounds instead of providing information as promised. My confirmation clearly listed that we would have private transportation, lunch, alcoholic beverages, and onboard wifi, but there was no wifi, and drinks needed to be bought separately. Moreover, the listing claimed we would enjoy a pool and jacuzzi, but these did not exist, and we didn't even visit a beach. The three stars are solely for the food and the tranquil environment. It would be more accurate to label this as a river and lunch excursion. I can't recommend it given what was included for the price.
The tour was able to accommodate our last-minute request and provided hotel pickup, which we appreciated. We were eager to see exotic animals in the jungle; however, the reality fell short of our expectations. The "jungle" experience consisted of a roadside zoo with reptiles and birds in small cement enclosures, which was disappointing. Afterward, we took a wooden boat down a narrow river, passing a few cow farms. Unfortunately, the boat ride offered little information and felt more like a taxi to the restaurant. We didn't get to see the convergence of the river with the ocean, which I had been most looking forward to, as we were dropped off at the restaurant without a clear idea of our stay duration or what to expect. The option to swim in the river was only mentioned after the fact. Although drinks cost extra, the food was enjoyable, the dogs were charming, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Overall, the price seemed a bit high considering the experience, but it had its enjoyable moments.
Initially, we weren't sure what to expect, but Antonio from Tony Tours welcomed us like family. Our experiences with him were incredible, especially the jungle excursion along the Yasica River. Miguel guided us on a boat, showcasing beautiful wildlife such as snowy egrets while drifting along the calm river, which flows into Cabarete Beach at the Boca Chica and Wilson Bar. The sandy strip separated the river from the ocean, and at Wilson Bar, we enjoyed fresh fried fish and chicken in a wonderfully peaceful setting. It felt almost spiritual, as if time had stopped. We loved it so much that Antonio helped us arrange another horseback riding adventure back along the sandbars of the Yasica River to Wilson Bar. It was an amazing experience! Tony was attentive and caring, making this tour one I highly recommend. We can't wait to return to Cabarete and have Tony organize more excursions for us.
The tour started off on a rocky note when Tony Tours forgot to pick us up, but after a 20-minute wait, Mr. Wilson arrived to take us to a charming riverside spot where we spotted a crocodile, a caiman, ducks, and chickens. We enjoyed fresh coffee and tasty local fruit while waiting for more guests. Soon, we learned that we were invited to Mr. Bill's birthday celebration, who turned out to be quite welcoming. The decorated riverboat took us along the Jessica River to La Boca, where we reached Wilson's La Boca Restaurant and Bar. The food was exceptional, featuring freshly cooked local fried fish, lobster, rice with beans, salad, and birthday cake. This was undoubtedly the best seafood we've had. I highly recommend the boat tour and Wilson's restaurant if you're in Cabarete, DR. Interestingly, the person who rescued us that morning was Mr. Wilson himself. It's clear why he mentioned the restaurant was owned by a savvy individual.
This was a fantastic experience with amazing wildlife viewing, a pleasant ride on the river, and a stunning sight where the river meets the ocean. I highly recommend visiting Wilson restaurant for its excellent food and friendly service.
An enjoyable trip featuring animals and untouched nature. The river cruise was delightful, accompanied by delicious food in a charming setting.
We had an amazing experience! We wanted a retreat from the hectic atmosphere of downtown Cabarete, and we certainly found it. The scenery and wildlife were stunning, providing much-needed tranquility. My wife and I enjoyed quality bonding time, filled with fun. The food was fantastic and very authentic. We will surely return!
