Self-paced exploration of Bodø's downtown highlights, including Nyholmen Skandse fortress, in about 60 minutes.
This self-guided walking tour allows you to explore the downtown area of Bodø at your own pace. The suggested route leads you to a jetty with views of Nyholmen Skandse fortress, a significant historical site in the harbour. Along the way, you'll learn about the intriguing story of Soviet spy Selmer Nilsen, who monitored aviation traffic from the Norrona hotel during the Cold War.
The tour takes around 60 minutes, but you can linger at noteworthy stops, giving you complete flexibility over your timing. It's wheelchair accessible, though be prepared for some cobbled and sandy sections. This option also includes unlimited access to the tour both before and after your booking date, plus a virtual tour choice to enjoy from home.
Reviews
I found it challenging to operate the audio tour. Fortunately, I had a printed map and descriptions, which turned out to be helpful.
The walk through Bodø is certainly worthwhile. I learned some fascinating facts about the city's history. It's great that you can explore at your own pace. Unfortunately, the cathedral was closed, and I wish there had been more museums. The section along the pier felt excessive, especially since it required returning the same way.
This experience was ideal for me as a solo traveler. It offered an excellent introduction to Bodo, allowing me to learn about the city and gain a sense of direction. The app was user-friendly, and I appreciated the notifications when I strayed off course. I recommend it to anyone visiting Bodo for the first time.
The orientation could be a bit difficult to follow at times. It would be more user-friendly if the map included an aerial view, such as from OpenStreetMap. Overall, it's a solid app with helpful starting instructions. It's a great option for exploring Bodø independently.
