Fatehpur Sikri
Agra, India

Fatehpur Sikri is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a fortified city built in the late 16th century by Mughal Emperor Akbar. The complex showcases Indo-Islamic architecture, with notable structures like the enormous Buland Darwaza, an imposing gateway rising 35 metres, and the intricately carved Panch Mahal, a five-storey palace offering panoramic views.
Allocate a few hours to wander the vast grounds, especially in the cooler months from October to March. Be aware that midday heat can be intense, and bring water. Nearby, the ancient site of Sikri and the Tomb of Salim Chishti are worth a visit for their historical significance.
