Spring was an excellent guide, and the tour itinerary was superb. He arrived at my hotel in Zhengzhou right at 8 a.m. Our first stop was Shaolin, and the mountain drive was stunning. The weather in September was perfect, making it an especially beautiful time to visit. We aimed to see one of the morning martial arts demos, but due to a large crowd, Spring wisely suggested we wait for the afternoon session. In the meantime, we explored the temple complex and enjoyed a leisurely lunch and shopping. Spring's knowledge about the temple's history, myths, statues, and buildings was impressive. When we finally went to the Kung Fu demonstration, he guided us to the best viewing spots. After that, we headed to the Longmen grottoes, enjoying another beautiful drive. Luoyang is quite charming as well. We took a trolley from the ticket area to the grottoes, but exploring the caves requires quite a bit of walking and climbing. The grottoes were breathtaking, and Spring shared fascinating historical insights about their creation and the carvings, even showing me photos on his phone. Be ready to do a lot of walking and wear comfortable footwear. The lunch at Shaolin was one of the best meals I've had in China and incredibly affordable. Spring was also incredibly helpful when my phone lost signal and I couldn't make payments; he used his phone to assist me and I reimbursed him later. His English was excellent, and he helped translate at shops, restaurants, and with trolley drivers. I highly recommend Spring as a guide.
The tour of the Longmen Grottos and Shaolin Temple was amazing. Our guide, Spring, was not only knowledgeable but also very considerate.
