The kayaking tour was a delightful experience. Initially, I worried about the chilly temperatures—35°F overnight and only 40°F at our 8:30 launch—however, dressing in layers and enjoying some sunshine alleviated my concerns. Our group included both beginners and those with moderate experience, so we eased into the activity. Our guide, Annie, was not only patient but also a skilled instructor, helping the less experienced quickly catch on. We paddled past the site where hot water from thermal pools flows into the lake, passing bubbling underwater fumaroles. Annie shared a wealth of stories and information about the local wildlife, plants, and thermal features, and engaged with more knowledgeable participants who had deeper questions. While seasoned kayakers might find the pace a bit slow, it strikes a perfect balance for most. I highly recommend this tour.
A unique opportunity to explore the thermal features in the park while enjoying the stunning views of Yellowstone Lake. The kayaking is not overly demanding, but some fitness and good balance are necessary for the three-hour experience.
Our tour was truly fantastic! Spencer was an excellent guide—knowledgeable and very friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend this tour.
The trip was wonderful, and I highly recommend it. Our guide Annie was remarkable; her knowledge and personable nature truly made the experience standout.
The journey was wonderful and truly one of the standout experiences of our visit. Our guide, Annie, was exceptional—very knowledgeable and friendly. She reached out via text and email a week in advance, providing valuable tips on what to wear and what to bring, which were perfectly on point. We felt very comfortable throughout. We wholeheartedly recommend this trip.
The guide we had was outstanding—knowledgeable, skilled, and enjoyable to be around, enhancing our overall experience. We were fortunate with great weather for our paddle, but it's important to be ready for changing conditions, as wind and waves can complicate the experience.
Spencer, our guide, was both engaging and well-informed. The paddle to the geothermal features was fantastic, and we were lucky enough to spot a rainbow. Taking a brief pause on the beach was another excellent addition.
This tour was fantastic, with friendly and helpful staff and an informed guide. It was a unique way to explore Yellowstone, and I definitely recommend it.
Annie was an excellent guide. She demonstrated patience with those new to kayaking and shared a wealth of information and stories about nature.
First, be aware that this experience involves kayaking in conditions similar to the sea, not calm waters. The lake's size can be impacted by lunar tides and strong winds, which I wasn't aware of before booking. I attempted it but had to turn back soon after starting due to my discomfort. The tour operator mentioned that they would update the listing about the wave conditions, but it hasn't happened yet. It turned out to be fortunate that we returned early because the winds intensified and forced the rest of the group back due to unsafe wave conditions. If we had continued, they would have been too far out to turn back and would have needed to wait for the guide, which is uncommon. Ultimately, the rest of the group did not reach the geyser basin. The guide was very friendly and accommodating, and they provided a good amount of equipment for us to use. Had we finished the tour, I believe those who were comfortable with the conditions would have enjoyed it. We appreciated the guide's efforts and tipped him; when the operator offered a full refund, we chose to accept half, as some of us liked the brief paddle.
