I appreciate Leon, Momo, Tina, and Ivy for their attentive care during our visit to Yellow Knight Town, even amidst the bustling Christmas and New Year holidays. They were exceptionally kind and friendly. Besides enjoying the light displays, they assisted us with taking photos and provided us with pictures at the end of our experience. I highly recommend participating in such activities to fully experience the charm of Yellow Knight Town.
I had an excellent time from December 27 to January 1. There were no extra charges for activities like snowmobiling, dog sledding, ice fishing, or various aurora trips. The staff worked hard to ensure we had the best chance to see the Aurora and made the entire experience enjoyable, extending beyond the aurora trips outlined in the itinerary. We even celebrated New Year's Eve together, enjoying fireworks and the countdown at the aurora lodge. I highly recommend this experience.
We embarked on this trip for New Year's and had mixed experiences with the auroras. Out of three nights, two shows were very faint while one was quite impressive. It's essential to be ready for the chance of not seeing much over the three nights, although the guides do their best to increase your odds. They also capture stunning professional photos during the tours. Most nights, we returned to our hotel around 1 AM, with some day tours picking us up at 9:30 AM. This left little time for a full night's rest, though we could nap between morning and evening tours. Many shops close early, around 3 PM, which was somewhat inconvenient. Among the activities, the dog sledding stood out as the most beautiful experience, with the guide taking excellent photos and videos during the ride. My partner loved snowmobiling, but be warned—the cold wind can be intense. We also tried ice fishing, which was a unique experience, but despite being out for four hours without a bite, we recognized that the weather that day was particularly harsh. In early January, temperatures hovered around -30 Celsius most days. While they provide gear to keep warm, it can still get chilly after a while, so I suggest bringing electric hand warmers. Make sure to cover your face well, as your eyelashes and nasal mucus will freeze almost instantly outdoors. It’s an unusual sensation, but you adapt to it quickly.
The team at Destination Nwt Limited was excellent—friendly, supportive, and dedicated to making sure we enjoyed our trip. There were plenty of chances to see the Northern Lights. However, I would recommend some changes to the daytime activities. Personally, I found the ice fishing day unproductive since I’m not really into fishing, and others shared a similar sentiment. Additionally, the setup for the snowmobile tour was good, but the helmets provided were not suitable for those of us who wear glasses.
The daytime activities felt a bit brief, but considering the extreme cold during our visit, it was likely a good thing. Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity to experience everything Yellowknife has to offer.
The activities and service were enjoyable, and the staff were kind and accommodating. I deducted one star because I felt the price was a bit high. However, if you want a stress-free experience for a few days, it is worthwhile.
We opted for the 4-day package with this company, believing it would simplify our plans, and it certainly did. I highly recommend NWT Destinations. The small team of five was well-organized, keeping us informed about the schedule and ensuring our comfort during activities. Ice fishing exceeded my expectations; the heated huts were a great touch, and the lunch they provided was delicious. Dog sledding was enjoyable, though it only lasted 20 minutes due to the bitter cold of March—any longer would have been too much. I appreciated that they arranged our return to accommodations as soon as a few of us completed our ride, rather than making everyone wait. Very well managed. Unfortunately, the ski-do trip was uneventful because one person in our group of six went off the trail three times and needed rescuing while the rest of us waited in the cold. They did offer us another chance to go out, but it was too late since we had to leave the next day. The Northern Light lodge owned by the company is amazing, featuring a cozy fire, hot drinks, and snacks inside. You can step out onto the deck to view the lights and snap pictures before warming up again. It’s about a 30-minute drive from town, and the bus ride is slightly chilly, but that adds to the experience. A big thanks to Tina, Mo, Willy, Leon, and our fantastic ice fishing guide.
Destination Nwt Limited was an excellent choice for our tour. Mo, our main contact, was outstanding with his communication throughout the experience.
The experience was extraordinary. Just a month before the trip, I turned 91 and while I am legally blind and deaf, I felt blessed to witness the Northern lights, the ice castle, and the incredible sculptures and art. The guides were exceptional, showing great kindness and patience.
I had a wonderful time. Leon and his team were committed and really attentive to our needs. The aurora viewing and photography were outstanding. Ivy captured great images; her enthusiasm truly made the experience special. Thank you all for a fantastic adventure.
