Reviews
It was a fantastic evening of Aurora viewing. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the lodge where we waited was cozy and inviting. The staff were friendly, and they offered professional photography services. Overall, a wonderful experience.
The pick-up was on time and very smooth. This is a "camp" aurora experience, where you relax at a building/campground as you await the Northern Lights, rather than a chase tour. They provide hot beverages, cookies, and have restroom facilities. Outside, you'll find a heated teepee and a bonfire. The photographer was outstanding, although we struggled to find her for our photos since she and many others wore red CG coats. The lights were breathtaking, and I’m really pleased we chose this tour. It did seem to cater mainly to an Asian audience, as we were the only English speakers, but our guide Rae spoke flawless English, so communication was easy.
This was my second tour to see the Aurora in Yellowknife, and Jiguang impressively communicated the pick-up time via email based on visibility and clear skies. Our pick-up was at 10 PM, and the drive to the base camp took about 10 minutes. During the ride, our multilingual guide, Daniel, provided clear expectations and was open to all questions. His humor made the experience even better. On April 4th, we visited their base, which features multiple structures with plenty of seating, tables, complimentary hot beverages, and snacks. The bathroom was clean and well appointed. The standout feature was the property itself, which offered various viewing areas, including two illuminated teepees for photos and one heated teepee with clear windows. This allowed us to stay warm inside while enjoying the Aurora outside. There was also a fireplace area for roasting marshmallows. An additional perk was the presence of two photographers who ensured all guests had opportunities to capture their moments with the Aurora. While I have only been with two companies, I really liked this property and the guides. The other tour simply involved traveling from lake to lake. Seeing the Aurora can be unpredictable, but we were fortunate to have a night with clear skies and activity. I strongly recommend Jiguang, and I hope you get to experience the Northern Lights in Yellowknife.
Our guide, Mike, primarily spoke in Chinese, likely because most participants understood him. The tent area with the teepee felt cozy. While there was no aurora, which is beyond anyone's control, we did enjoy a clear, star-filled sky at Lake Prosperous. However, the guide appeared disinterested in visiting other locations or addressing the slim chances of seeing the aurora. There was no effort made to chase the aurora, despite the description promising this.
This was the least enjoyable of the three tours I participated in. They took us to their camp where we spent an excessive amount of time waiting. Who is interested in the camp? They offered cookies and hot chocolate as advertised, but who cares after just having dinner at a warm hotel? During the cold trip, there was nothing provided for us.
Jim, our guide, was incredibly helpful and genuinely aimed to ensure everyone had a great time, even though we only saw faint, nearly imperceptible auroras.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience, as we were fortunate to have clear skies and witness the Northern Lights, capturing fantastic photographs. Our guide, Jimmy, was both knowledgeable and friendly, making the experience enjoyable with creative photo suggestions. Thank you, Tanya and family.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The aurora was stunning, and the photos taken, both by us and our host, serve as fantastic mementos of our experience.
Mike from J Guang Tours did a commendable job. He was entrepreneurial, communicated in clear English, and genuinely focused on delivering a quality tour along with valuable information.
I do not recommend this tour. There was no campsite, no restrooms, and no hot drinks. We were put on an overheated bus for four hours, only to be told that chasing the lights was preferable because of the clouds. I didn't sign up for just a bus ride and chose to leave without participating in the tour.
