Even though my luggage was lost by the airline, I was well taken care of throughout the trip. The service was exceptional. This journey offered more than just the stunning lights, which we enjoyed nightly. The dog sledding was thrilling, and while I typically snowshoe at home, the unique terrain here added a different challenge, which I loved despite sweating in -30 degrees. Stopping the tundra buggy on the frozen river to explore was a highlight. Dan's diner offered a wonderful meal paired with Glenlivet tasting at the ice bar near a cozy fire, all while the lights danced above. The community in Churchill showed great pride in their environment and sites. I'm highly impressed with Frontiers North and plan to return for either beluga or polar bear experiences, or perhaps both.
I have just returned from a trip to sub-arctic Canada in search of the northern lights, and I can happily say we witnessed the auroras on two of our four nights—they were spectacular. Beyond the lights, our experience was incredible. Firstly, the people were fantastic. Our guide Ward and bus driver Tori were not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the northern lights, polar bears, and the indigenous culture, with many educators being of indigenous descent. Spending time with them was truly enjoyable. Secondly, the diversity of activities and the educational aspects were amazing. Each night, we ventured out into the tundra searching for the lights, with breaks at interesting venues like a yurt or lounge. During the day, we enjoyed hearty meals and engaging insights into trapping, local culture, aurora science, and polar bears. We even took a dog sled ride with Big Dog Dave and his family, who are well-known for their dogs and racing abilities. All activities were top-notch and informative. Dan's Diner deserves special mention. While most of the meals were hearty rather than gourmet, one night we indulged in a multi-course gourmet feast aboard an ice buggy, featuring local dishes that were simply wonderful. The chefs were skilled and passionate, and I particularly enjoyed chatting with Chef Lars. Be aware that this trip isn't inexpensive. You'll need to rent proper outerwear (don’t compromise on this unless you're experienced in arctic conditions) and purchase flight tickets and insurance. If you're interested in seeing the northern lights, I recommend the 4-night photo trip. Even though we aren't photographers and managed just fine with our iPhones, that extra night was invaluable for viewing the auroras again. This journey is significant and can be challenging (it’s quite cold, requires careful packing and dressing, and involves late nights), but it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, and I'm really glad we dedicated our time and budget to experiencing it.
I just wrapped up an incredible tour with Frontiers North in Churchill, and it surpassed all my expectations. As an Aurora enthusiast, I've traveled to Lapland multiple times a season for five years, but this was the first time I saw the lights every night under clear skies. We were taken to stunning locations with beautiful forests and expansive skies. The guides, Jason and Deb, were fantastic, always helpful and cheerful, which added to the trip's magic. The food was a delicious surprise, offering varied menus and plenty of options. I appreciated the heated lodge with restrooms and snacks, especially in freezing weather. The tundra buggy rides were thrilling, and the drivers were friendly and capable. The cultural talks from locals in Churchill were both interesting and informative, adding depth to the experience. Dog sledding was a blast, and Dave Daley was truly inspiring. The schedule balanced indoor and outdoor activities well, allowing us some downtime before our exciting nights chasing the Aurora. I couldn't be happier with my experience and highly recommend this tour. The hotel was excellent, featuring a spacious room with a comfortable bed and nice amenities. From my initial inquiry to booking and the entire on-ground experience, everything was exceptional. For the best chance to see the lights, I recommend going to Churchill with this company.
We completed a 7-day itinerary at the end of February and found everything to be flawlessly organized. The daily activities offered rich cultural insights, and the aurora viewings were breathtaking. Having previously missed the Northern Lights in Iceland, I was cautiously hopeful for this trip. We were thrilled to see the aurora every night, with two nights being particularly impressive, and we even witnessed a meteor streak across the sky. The package included everything, with the only additional expenses being for drinks and souvenirs. They covered all aspects, from transfers and delightful meals to simple physical activities like a short hike and fat-tire biking. The gear rental was very handy. We had an incredible time and are already planning to return for polar bear and whale watching. Our guide Jeff from Frontiers North was exceptional, along with Ross, Alex, and Ray, who generously shared their knowledge and expertise.
