The Native American interpreter was disrespectful and rude, responding with an irrational rage when I simply asked for her thoughts on a book about Native American history. Despite having Native American ancestry myself, her aggressive reaction made me doubt her knowledge, leading me to view her as inauthentic. Additionally, the food at Colonial Williamsburg was excessively overpriced for its poor quality; the prepackaged sandwiches we tried were bland and similar to convenience store food, costing us $12 each, and much of it ended up in the trash. Our own peanut butter sandwiches were the best meal we had, proving to be fresher than the $12 sandwiches with stale bread. Basic items like small bags of chips and water were overpriced, and even the chips didn't justify the $30 spent for a mediocre meal. There was also a lack of shade due to many trees being cut down, and several shops and exhibits that we enjoyed years ago were closed. Although we made the most of our $55 three-day ticket, there was actually less to see than what was previously available for free. Most interpreters had an unpleasant attitude, as if we were lucky to have their guidance for which we paid. However, the guide for the Capital and House of Burgesses tour was excellent. While the free bus from the visitor center was a positive, on our last day, we encountered long wait times with only two buses running, and our driver was unfriendly after we waited nearly an hour. Ultimately, after paying $10 per day for parking, the complimentary trolley service felt less free. I suggest avoiding Colonial Williamsburg and investing time and money in Jamestown and Yorktown instead. Others at CW advised leaving a review to encourage changes at this declining historical site, which needs to return to its original vision from decades past, rather than focusing solely on profit.
This place is very interesting and offers plenty to explore, though it can be a bit confusing at first. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes enjoyable. Taking the bus between locations allows you to see a lot; there are museums, restaurants, and many interactive activities along with buildings to visit. Consider purchasing a multi-day ticket to fully experience everything, as it does require a considerable amount of walking.
Colonial Williamsburg is a stunning destination for a weekend getaway. We appreciated the informative and engaging tours of The Capitol and The Governor's Mansion. The area's architecture is unparalleled, and it was delightful to witness artisans maintaining traditional craftsmanship. The gardens were lovely, and the locals were amiable. I highly recommend a visit.
A fantastic location. Purchase tickets at the visitor center, where there's plenty of information available. However, all the t-shirts and souvenirs are excessively pricey.
The tours were excellent and organizing them was hassle-free. Booking through the platform made obtaining tickets straightforward, and the passes facilitated smooth entry to each site.
Colonial Williamsburg offers a fantastic experience. We explored numerous sites at our own pace, and each one was engaging and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and highly knowledgeable, making it an excellent way to learn about the area's history.
This experience is not suitable for individuals with disabilities. Although the area has historical significance, exploring it without a guide can be tedious. Many buildings are difficult to access due to steps and narrow paths. Additionally, the vast area requires considerable walking, which could be a challenge for some. While it was intriguing, the $38 fee for building access doesn't seem justified.
I had a really enjoyable experience, and it was quite fascinating.
Be aware that parking in the lot in front of the visitors' center incurs a fee. It’s free for the first 30 minutes but costs $10 afterward, regardless of your stay duration. For brief visits, there is a less expensive parking option on N. Henry that connects to main sites via the free WATA bus. Also, a "VA 250 Passport" cannot be stamped at Colonial Williamsburg without purchasing admission. Though you can explore some of the main areas and visit art galleries for free, access to most craft shops and re-enactors requires the admission pass. During our previous visits, we enjoyed walking the streets and visiting galleries without paying, but this time, we learned we couldn't stamp our passports unless we paid. We found it unreasonable to spend around $80 just for the stamps, though we could afford the fee.
We bought four tickets through the site and printed the voucher that included a bar code. Upon arriving at the Colonial Williamsburg visitor center, we were directed to a long line meant for ticket purchases. The voucher we had offered no advantage and ultimately wasted an hour of our time, as it did not expedite the process at all. In the future, it seems getting a voucher is pointless.
